ELIZABETH BULLER
Date of Passing: Feb 24, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELIZABETH BULLER September 8, 1910 - February 24, 2012 Elizabeth Buller passed away in the early hours of Friday, February 24, 2012 at Donwood Personal Care Home at the glorious age of 101 years and five months. She lived a life full of love and commitment to her family, her church and the community where she resided since her marriage to Cornelius Buller on October 4, 1934. Born in Tiegenhagen, Ukraine, Russia, Elizabeth's early life was happy and carefree until the war broke out in 1914. The family's business was lost and her father was imprisoned for two years. Showing the type of resilience that Elizabeth has demonstrated during her remarkable life, the family built up another successful business but the famine of 1921 in Ukraine dealt another serious blow. Without MCC's help, Elizabeth and her family would not have survived. In 1924, Elizabeth moved with most of her family to Manitoba, Canada, the Land of Freedom as she called it. In 1928 she joined the North End Mennonite Brethren Church by baptism where she sang in the choir and later met and married Cornelius Buller. Elizabeth's life has been one of love and dedication to her husband, Cornelius, (who predeceased her in 1981), her five children, 19 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren, who all enjoyed her wonderful baking, her Sunday dinners and her willingness to babysit. She was a charter member of the North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church, the church where she spent many happy times singing in the choir, attending meetings, running the church library and participating in a myriad of other activities. This strong, energetic and informed woman, with a wonderful sense of humour, a love of reading and a thirst for knowledge will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by her five children and their spouses: Elenore and Jake Unger, Ed and Eliana Buller, Herb and Erna Buller, John and Evelyn Buller and Neil and Joyce Buller, their children and grandchildren. She will also be missed by her former daughter-in-law and close friend Anita Warkentin, family members in Germany and Russia, relatives in other parts of Canada and close friends in her church community. Funeral service for Elizabeth Buller will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2012 at North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church, 1315 Gateway Road, at 10:30 a.m., with a reception at the church followed by a private burial. Viewing will be held on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main Street. Elizabeth's family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of 2 North, Donwood Personal Care Home for their gracious and committed care. She became Oma to all of them. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Mennonite Central Committee, Family Life Network or Donwood Manor Foundation Inc. Thou wilt keep him in Perfect Peace Whose mind is stayed On Thee. Isaiah 26:3

Aunt Elizabeth will always be in my thoughts. She would come to visit and it was like having my mother with me. Their voices were the same. She was a wonderful caring lady. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. - Posted by: Manda Moffatt (Niece) on: Mar 03, 2012

Mrs. Buller faithfully attended prayer meetings organized for Youth for Christ at Donwood. She prayed with such passion and love for her Lord, for the YFC staff and for the youth of our city. She knew the importance and signifance of prayer. Only heaven knows the results - but we know YFC was incredibly blessed by her partnership. - Posted by: Youth for Christ (friend and prayer partner for the minsitry and staff) on: Feb 29, 2012

Gramma Buller has a very special place in my heart. Since the first day I met Elizabeth 14 years ago at Camp Arnes, she became "gramma" to me and my kids. Even at 99 she was STILL winning at shuffleboard here at camp! Visiting her with Edna and enjoying Sanka and zwieback (sweet buns that she was still making herself!) She was loved by many and will be missed by ALL! - Posted by: Shauna Wear (Friend) on: Feb 28, 2012

What an amazing life she had. Anytime I saw her, she always had the biggest smile and the fact that you had her for so many years is wonderful. I know she will be missed by her family but you have all those wonderful memories to treasure. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. - Posted by: Susan McLarty (Friend) on: Feb 27, 2012
