BERNICE MARGRETA LAUDIN (nee MEINHART) October 10, 1922 - February 24, 2012 It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of Bernice Laudin, loving wife, mother, aunty and precious friend, at Concordia Hospital, at the age of 89 years. She was comforted by family and precious friends as she passed peacefully. Bernice was predeceased by her loving husband, Harold; by her only son, Brian; by brother, Walter and by sister, Dortheia. Bernice was born in her family home in Dundurn, Saskatchewan. During the 1930s, her family moved to Winnipeg and settled in East Kildonan. Her family attended Immanuel Lutheran Church where she went to Sunday School and was confirmed by Rev. Kohler in April of 1936. Bernice had a lifelong association with the Lutheran Church and her faith never waivered. After finishing high school, she attended the Success Business College and attained a Secretarial position with the Manitoba Government, working at the Manitoba Legislative Building. During one of her many outings with the Walther League, she met and fell in love with Harold Laudin. They were married on May 6, 1943 and shared their life with their church, Holy Cross Lutheran and with their only son, Brian. Some of Bernice's favourite things to do as a child and young adult were playing tennis with her favourite cousin, Lillian, attending Walther League at Immanuel Lutheran Church and playing her accordion. Later in life, she enjoyed gardening, reading, visiting the library, sewing, cooking, baking, ice skating and her many trips on the Beach Train with Harold. Bernice, Harold and Brian loved to travel in the camper trailer that Harold had built. After the loss of her husband, Harold and her son, Brian, Bernice moved from her East Kildonan home to an apartment at the newly opened Concordia Village. She was quickly befriended by a kindred spirit named Shirley. In 2010, Bernice moved to The Irene Baron Eden Centre. She enjoyed her new home and was very appreciative of the care and support she received from the staff. She loved the attention of the Blueberry Bay pet cat, Scooter. If Scooter was missing, he could always be found in Bernice's room. Thanks to all there for their care of Bernice. Family and friends would also like to thank the staff of Concordia Hospital for their support and compassion during our greatest hour of need. Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 1 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 708 McCalman Ave. (at Grey Street), Winnipeg, MB. Interment will follow at Green Acres Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in memory of Bernice, to Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 708 McCalman Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2L 1G7 or to your favourite Animal Shelter. Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands. 2 Corinthians 5:1 NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE (204) 949-2200 nbardal.mb.ca
