Date of Passing: Feb 24, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryADAM ELLIOT CANNON CARDINAL It is with shattered hearts that the family announces the passing of its beloved son, Adam Elliot Cannon Cardinal in the presence of his loving family, at home on February 24, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Winnipeg on September 25, 1981, this wonderful young man leaves behind his mother Brenda Cannon (Martin), his father Brian Cardinal (Brenda), his adoring sister Vanessa (Marvin), his brothers, Sean (Kim), Chris and Clayton (Pam), along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. A life long athlete, hockey was Adam's true passion participating and as a spectator. In recent weeks, a documentary film examining Winnipeg's first Stanley Cup triumph - Champion City, the 1896 Winnipeg Victorias - was premiered, starring none other than Adam Cardinal. Though his time with us was short, he brought joy and love to our hearts. Adam had a determined heart and a soul which encompassed everyone he met. A high school teacher and coach, Adam gave of himself every day. Adam was born to teach, coach and mentor. His insight, tenacity, strength and wisdom endeared him to all those privileged enough to have known him. His courage was never more evident than after he began his fight against cancer. Despite the challenges this presented, he focused the considerable power of his personality on forging a battle for a healthy body, spirit and mind. In July of 2011, despite six months of chemotherapy, Adam ran and cycled an 850 km journey with Tori's Run from Nelson House to Winnipeg to raise awareness and research money for cancer. He continued to lead others, encouraging them by teaching meditation techniques. He faced adversity and, as a result, made a difference in his own life and the lives of those around him. The family expresses its deep gratitude to Dr. Daeninck, Tracey, Dr. Gary Harding, Deb, and all those associated with CancerCare Manitoba for their dedication to Adam. Adam's life will be celebrated at a memorial service Saturday, March 3, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. at Covenant Christian Reformed Church, 653 Knowles, Winnipeg. I met Adam in teacher's college, and we taught together at Garden City. After graduating, we kept in touch through the years, and when I heard he was ill we got together a few times. Adam had a full, though brief, life. I will miss him and look forward to meeting again. Farewell, friend. - Posted by: Chris Carter (friend) on: Jul 08, 2012

I attended St. Joseph the Worker with Adam for seven years. While I hadn't seen him since elementary, I remember quite clearly what a force he was to be reckoned with, even at such a young age. Adam played a vital part in our small classroom, and was always overflowing with energy and humour. My own family's thoughts are with you during this time - my most sincere condolences. - Posted by: John T. (Former Classmate) on: Mar 04, 2012

Our thoughts are with you and your family, although we weren't apart of Adam's later years. Our families spent many summers at the lake together. Adam was always a pleasure to have around and he spent many hours with our son Derek and us. We will miss him and have a lot of memories. Brenda and Brian and Vanessa hold onto all the good memories as that is all that matters. Sorry I was unable to attend service we were away out of the country. Luv u Brenda call - Posted by: Dave & Sam Pososki (Friends) on: Mar 04, 2012

My sincere condolences to Adam's family. He was a very nice guy and may he live in memories forever. I remember one time in gym class he kicked a soccer ball and it hit me in the head. Before apologizing he joked he was knocking some sense into me. Always a joker. - Posted by: C.R (Went to school with adam) on: Mar 03, 2012
