JULIA (SHEILA) DOROTHY JENKINSON (nee LEWIS) January 24, 1929 - February 25, 2012 It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of our mother Sheila Jenkinson on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at Victoria General Hospital. Sheila was predeceased by her husband Joseph (Joe) in 2009 and her brother Jack Lewis of Vancouver, BC in 2010. Sheila is survived by her sons David (Ellen) and Ian (Carol), daughter Margaret, and grandchildren Corbin, Erica, Joel, Krystin, Laura, Nathan and Philip. Sheila was born in Montreal, January 24, 1929. After high school she started as a switchboard operator at Canadian Bronze Co. in Montreal, where she would meet her future husband Joseph (Joe) Jenkinson. They were married on October 15, 1949 and went on to raise three children, and eventually would settle in Winnipeg after Dad's transfer there in 1965. Sheila loved animals of all shapes and sizes but was especially fond of dogs, which were a huge presence in our family. After Dad retired in 1986, Mom and he moved to Vancouver Island from where they would take several cruises to the four corners of the globe, have a house built on the side of a mountain and enjoy their retirement. Mom and Dad ultimately returned to Winnipeg in 2005. Mom enjoyed her new home at Sterling House and all the new friends she made in her remaining years. Many thanks to the kind staff, nurses and to Dr. Adam and Dr. Thorlakson at the Victoria General Hospital for looking after Mom during her last weeks. In honour of her wishes, a private family service will be held. Cremation has taken place. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3T 0R3.
