LAWRENCE (LARRY) DOUGLAS SAULNIER 1924 2012 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear father at Deer Lodge Centre on Friday, March 2, 2012. Predeceased by his beloved wife, Helen, Larry leaves to mourn, his four children, Dave (Lynn), Margaret, Marie (George) and Phil (Sherry), along with six grandchildren, Denny (Lisa), Darren (Shannon), Breanna (Jay), Meagan (Karif), Ryan, Justin, and six great- grandchildren. Larry was born in Yarmouth, NS, on June 16, 1924. He joined the Merchant Marines as a young man and then the Canadian Armed Forces, retiring in 1969. He served overseas in the Second World War and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for over 60 years. Upon retiring from the military, he and his wife Helen relocated to Lynn Lake, MB, for a number of years where he was employed as Camp Administrator for Sherritt Gordon Mines. He was also the local Magistrate, where he enjoyed his relationship with members of the Lynn Lake Detachment of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Dad also spent a number of years working for Sentinel Security where he travelled to various locations across Canada. Larry was an avid sportsman who loved the outdoors. He spent much time hunting and fishing. In his earlier years he engaged in a host of activities including softball, curling, darts, shuffleboard, billiards, badminton, cards and he also enjoyed the racetrack. There are few people who could match Larry's wit. He was a quick thinker and a master story teller. In more recent years Dad could be seen motoring around St. James and Charleswood on his scooter. He would take his newspaper with him while enjoying the beautiful scenery and activities that Assiniboine Park had to offer. Dad was a caring, loving and generous father and grandfather. He struggled with showing some emotions but we could all see through his tough exterior. The family wishes to sincerely thank Dr. G. Griggs and the nurses and staff of 6 West and 3 East, Deer Lodge Centre for all their care and support of Dad over the past six months. Their compassion is truly appreciated. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations can be made to the charity of your choice in Larry's memory. Dad, you were a brave courageous soldier your entire life. You have fought and won your last battle; may you finally rest in peace. Forever loved and always remembered. Dave, Marg, Marie and Phil. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at Deer Lodge Centre, 2nd floor Chapel. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE (204) 949-2200 nbardal.mb.ca
