Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGE STEFANATION 1931 2012 George Stefanation passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 4, 2012 in Teulon, Manitoba at the age of 80 years. George was born in Alonsa, Manitoba on September 27, 1931. His parents were Alex and Nellie Stefanation (nee Turko). George is survived by his loving wife Sadie, in Teulon, and his two sons: Gratton (Terresa), and Kelly. Both sons live in Winnipeg. There are Kelly's two children, Jasmine and Corbett (George's Grandchildren) and Jasmine's sons, Keeghan and Lukas (George's Great-grandchildren). And a multitude of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, and cousins throughout the country. George was predeceased by: his Sisters: Annie (1936, she was two and a half when she died) and Mary (1985, her married name is Dmytryk) and by his Bothers: Fred (1975) and William (1992). George married Sadie (Lambourne) on August 4, 1956 in Winnipeg. They knew each other from attending Mellonville School, a one-room schoolhouse near Alonsa. George and Sadie started dating in 1952. They celebrated their 55th anniversary last year. George was born into a farming family and so, started out farming in the Alonsa area, but eventually tried his hand at big city life and started working in Winnipeg, where he initially held a couple different positions at different company's. Most of his early jobs were seasonal, but in October 1960, George started working for Russelsteel industries as a warehouse worker and crane operator. Dad still holds the record for longest time spent driving an overhead crane 14 years, and routinely won yearly awards for never missing a day. George retired from Russelsteel in 1995, after 35 years of service. All the time while they lived and worked in Winnipeg, George and Sadie maintained a hobby farm, which they worked on during weekends and holiday's. Initially it was the farm near Alonsa, and then in the early 1980s they setup farming activity in the Teulon area near Gunton - where the family moved permanently to in 1985. After retirement, he returned to farming full time. In the summer of 2003, George and Sadie purchased a house in Teulon and sold the farm retiring permanently from farming. Dad was an early rising, hard working, gentle person, and a man of few words. Dad was a great lover of old-time fiddle music and the Saturday Night Polka Party' could always be heard in the house or garage wherever he was. Dad spent many evenings watching NHL hockey on television and his favourite team was the Chicago Blackhawks. In fact, Hockey Night in Canada was the only thing he watched regularly until he discovered soap opera's in 2004. Dad enjoyed deer hunting in the fall and playing cards with friends and family on weekends. Any time anyone needed a hand doing something, they could always count on Dad to lend a hand. Dad had a great sense of humour, and would often bug nieces and nephews until they smiled and laughed. This was pretty much his purpose in life to make people smile. He was never too far from cracking a smile himself, and you could always count on him to give you a big grin at any time of the day, no matter what he was doing. As Dad wished, cremation has taken place and a service will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel in Teulon, Manitoba. If desired, a memorial donation may be made in George's memory to the Heart and Stroke foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald St, Winnipeg, MB, R3L 0K6. The family would like to thank all of the staff at Goodwin Lodge for the kindness and great care they showed to George during his stay there. Sorry for your loss. I did not meet your dad, but he would be proud of the thoughtful, well spoken young man I was fortunate to meet many years ago while working at the OG. - Posted by: Gayle Rafter (Janzen) (acquaintance of Gratton) on: Apr 14, 2013
