Condolences & Memories (17 entries)

  • I first met Doreen and her family in 1962, just weeks after the loss of my mother. My Dad and I attended St. James Corps of The Salvation Army. Doreen was a very cheerful, happy person who was able to handle those 3 brothers with no problem! Carmen and Rachael were very kind to my Dad and I. I have always remembered Doreen and although our paths haven't crossed too often since then, I have great memories of her. Rachael, Eric, Keith and Wayne - my deep sympathy and prayers are with you! May you feel the love of God round you with the blessed assurance that Doreen is now in the presence of the Lord! There will be no parting there! • Dear Rachel and family, very sorry to hear of your loss. Met Doreen a couple of years ago over at Alma's house when she was home. I told her that she was one of the 49ers and she said what do you mean. I told her in the Bond family tree there were 4 siblings born in 1949. Your Doreen, Norm's Lynn, Erna's Jackie and Anna's Stanley. She was 3 months older than me and it is very shocking to lose someone at such a young age. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and the boys. Stanley & Trudy Mackenzie - Posted by: Stanley Mackenzie (Cousin) on: Mar 09, 2012

  • I had the honour of working under Doreen as my supervisor at Salvation Army's Anchorage program. Doreen brought a much needed stability to our workplace; her conviction, her humour, and steady leadership were appreciated far more than I could ever have told her. She was also something of a mother figure to me. Doreen, you will be deeply missed. - Posted by: Alan Vanderwater (co worker) on: Mar 09, 2012

  • There are no words to express my sadness in the loss of Doreen...a bubbly, happy-go-lucky person who truly loved the Lord and had no problem sharing her testimony. Doreen and I were faithful viewers of Joyce Meyer Ministries and loved to listen to her preach. Doreen would often say that Joyce Meyer is a no-nonsense kind of preacher and hits you right between the eyes with the gospel of Jesus Christ. Doreen will live on in our hearts...we will never forget her. We will keep our precious Rachel and family in our prayers during the difficult days ahead! - Posted by: Rose Lewycky () on: Mar 08, 2012

  • My heart is saddened to hear of Doreen's sudden passing. She was an inspiration to me when I was just 19 years old and had just moved to Winnipeg and attended the St. James Corps of the Salvation Army. I loved her smile and her wonderful sense of humor. Praying for comfort and strength for the family and especially dear Rachel as she is grieving the loss of her precious daughter. May God continue to Bless you and to be your source of encouragement. - Posted by: Carmella Beavis (Holland) (family friend) on: Mar 08, 2012

  • I met this wonderful person a few years ago when we started to work together. Doreen was very kind, understanding, and of course she had a great sense of humour which I loved! I will miss her! I would have liked to have shared more time and laughs with this very special lady! A new journey has begun and only the Lord and Doreen know what they will be up to now! God Bless - Posted by: Jan Necsefor (Co worker from Headingley Correctional Centre Nursing Department) on: Mar 08, 2012

  • I am so shocked and saddened to hear of Doreen's passing! She was a wonderful lady! For the believer, Scripture tells us that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. We know that Doreen's now with her Lord and she's getting her 'well done' from HIM. Enjoy your promotion Doreen! Servant of God, well done! Rest from thy loved employ; The battle fought, the victory won, Enter thy Master's joy. Soldier of Christ, well done! Praise be thy new employ; And while eternal ages run, Rest in thy Saviour's joy. - Posted by: Darren Woods (Comrade) on: Mar 07, 2012

  • I cannot begin to say how saddened Bruce and I were to hear of Doreen's death. She had been teasing me just a few days ago. We do praise God for her passionate testimony for the Lord she loved with all her heart. We extend our love and prayers to Rae and all the family. - Posted by: margaret neitzke () on: Mar 07, 2012

  • Doreen's sudden 'Promotion to Glory' is hard to understand. She had a love for life and a strength of faith in her Lord that was exemplary. To her family and friends I offer my sympathy and the assurance of my thoughts and prayers for you in the days and weeks ahead. May you know His comfort and strength. - Posted by: Margaret Foley (Friend) on: Mar 07, 2012

  • Doreen will be remembered to us as a good friend during our teen years. She always had a beautiful smile and was a very caring and giving daughter to her Dad and her Mom. She was always ready to listen to our news of our family and our appointments. Doreen was a faithful follower of Christ, who lived a very interesting and challenging life. Love to Rachel and all the boys, may God give you comfort and strength during this time of loss. - Posted by: Russ & Judy Holland ( Majors) (Cousin & Friend) on: Mar 07, 2012

  • I can't even begin to express the deep sadness and loss I feel in the passing of Doreen. The only thing that brings comfort is knowing she is in Heaven. I will miss the fun times we shared, especially the Tuesday evening Phase 10 games, but mostly I will miss her loyal friendship. It reminds us once again that we must always be ready. My thoughts and prayers are with Rachel and all the family. - Posted by: Sharon Wynne () on: Mar 07, 2012

  • I remember Doreen from many years ago as a teen at St. James Corps. What I remember best is her sunshine smile and wonderful laugh. Although we have lost some sunshine down here heaven can only be brighter for her presence. May God hold you, the family in the palm of His hand and comfort you as only He can. • I was deeply saddened to hear of Doreen's passing. I know she is with her Lord and for this I rejoice. I will miss her sense of humour and laughter. In her presence you never knew what she was going to come up with. The one thing you did know was that she loved her Lord with all of her heart. Rachel, Eric, Wayne and Keith and families I wish to express my condolences. All of you will be in my prayers for the coming days as you mourn the loss of daughter, sister, aunt. God bless Betty Foley - Posted by: Elizabeth George nee Foley (Friend) on: Mar 07, 2012

  • I remember as a child, the Bond family living just down the street from my family in Nova Scotia. Doreen used to babysit myself and my sisters at times. I was 9 when Doreen left to live in Winnipeg, never thinking I would see her again. 10 years later I left my family in Nova Scotia and moved to Winnipeg. Doreen picked me up at the train station the day I arrived. Doreen was alot of fun. Some day, we have the hope and belief that we will see Doreen again someday. Thinking of you all and praying for you as you go through this difficult time of loss. - Posted by: Shirley Robinson ( husband Dennis) (friend) on: Mar 07, 2012

  • Some people we meet on our journey through life are special and Doreen was one of those people for me. Just in December, I shared Christmas Eve and part of Christmas Day with Doreen and her Mom as we opened gifts, played games and of course, ate the meal that Doreen had prepared. My thoughts and prayers will continue to surround you as a family. He is Lord! - Posted by: Betty Barnum (Friend) on: Mar 07, 2012

  • Death/Promotion to Glory comes as a "thief in the night" with little warning ...so we are advised to be ready. Doreen was! I recall Doreen as a young teenager at St.James Corps when Cliff and I were the Corps Officers in the 60s - she was a bridesmaid at Donna and Eric's wedding - we enjoyed many visits together, the most recent was last Christmas when we shared Christmas dinner that Doreen cooked and we shared presents, laughter and the game Phase 10. I am saddened that Doreen was promoted to Glory so young, but I know she is singing with the angels and playing jokes on her Dad. What great memories I have. My heart reaches out to you Rachel and to all the family members. Your loss is great, but the Lord WILL be your strength. - Posted by: Jean Williams (Friend/family) on: Mar 07, 2012
