LENA VOTH In the early afternoon of March 6, 2012 Mom passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior. Mom was born in Tiegenhagen, Russia on June 1, 1924. At the age of three months and under difficult circumstances, she immigrated to Canada in the fall of 1924. Being the oldest of three girls she left school to work and help her family. In 1943 she married Walter, the love of her life. They were blessed with 68 years together. Many friends, family and even strangers benefited from her gift of hospitality. Her God-given creativity was expressed in her home, her sewing, decorating, cooking, and in mid-life through her beautiful oil paintings. Her eagerness to help others was expressed through her involvement with Gideons, Camp Arnes, Mennonite Disaster Service, Mennonite Central Committee - in the Thrift Shop, Global Gifts and in organizing a group of women to sew blankets for people in need around the world. As a pioneer of Portage Avenue Mennonite Brethren Church she volunteered in many different projects over the years. She was predeceased by her parents Peter and Helena Rempel, her sister Erna, her children Ken, Richard and Robert, as well as several brothers and sisters-in-law. She is loved and will be greatly missed by her husband Walter and daughters Sharon and Judy (Al Hack), three grandsons, two granddaughters, seven great-grandchildren, her sister Betty (Horch) and numerous extended family members. A visitation will be held at Portage Avenue Mennonite Brethren Church on Thursday, March 8 between 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Burial service will be held at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens on Friday, March 9 followed by a memorial service at Portage Avenue Mennonite Brethren Church at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Gideons International. Arrangements by BIRCHWOOD FUNERAL CHAPEL 1-204-346-1030 OR 1-888-454-1030
