PAUL ALARIE It is with sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear father, Paul Alarie, at Foyer Valade on Saturday, March 10, 2012, at the age of 92 years. A man with high family values, Paul will be missed by his six children: Pauline, Cécile (Harry Skene), Maurice (Odile), Annette (Ronald Chevrefils), Diane, Denise (Ian Cyr). Also mourning his loss are nine grandchildren, their spouses and nine great-grandchildren: William Skene (Julia and Fergus), Dawn (Michael Crouch), Chad and Lee Alarie, Coleen (Michael, Finley, Quinn, Noah Oman), Adam Chevrefils (Rachelle, Xavier, Coralie), Nathan Chevrefils (Stacey, Terrance, Jude, Wesley), Connor and Nolan Cyr. Paul leaves four siblings: Henri, Leo, Yvonne Dupont, Rita (Reg Bernardin) and many in-laws, nieces and nephews. In 2005 Paul was predeceased by Jeannette (Chagnon), his loving wife of 58 years. He was also predeceased by eight siblings and many in-laws. Paul was born August 14, 1919 in Elie and grew up on the family farm. After he left the army, where he served with the Winnipeg Grenadiers, Dad worked at the paper mill in Pine Falls for more than 35 years. Paul married Jeannette Chagnon and they raised their six children in Powerview. Later Mom and Dad moved to St. Vital where they made many new friends. Dad was known as Mr. Fix-It who was always available for any project whether it was changing a tap, building a house or repairing a car. Pépère loved little children and was always delighted by visits from the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Paul and Jeannette's love of travelling took them on annual road trips all over Canada and USA. They had fond memories of their excursions to Europe, Hawaii and Alaska. Cremation has taken place. Funeral Mass will be held at Notre Dame du Laus Church in Powerview at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 15, 2012 with a Prayer Service at 1:30 p.m. The family wish to extend their deepest thanks to the staff at Unité Marguerite, Foyer Valade, for all their care during the past five years and especially for all the compassion and kindness extended to Dad and our family this past month. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to: Association for Community Living, Box 1222, Stonewall, MB R0C 2Z0. Dad, Pépère, we miss you very much! Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • So many memories dad, too many to pick one, but I am so glad to have had you for a father-in-law. We always looked forward to phone calls( you'd tell mom to call), the many visits (thank goodness you liked to travel). I think our family Christmas gatherings were always my favorite at your house. Now the pain and loneliness here on earth is done and you are with mom and your heavenly family.... We'll miss you alot, going to PF will not be the same anymore... - Posted by: Odile Alarie (Daughter-in-law) on: Mar 19, 2012

  • I will always remember fondly my summers at my Uncle Paul's house. I was always made to feel welcome and Uncle Paul would take me and Denise Places. He kept us entertained. He was a sweet Uncle and I enjoyed visiting with him and Auntie Jeanetter over the years. I will miss him. - Posted by: June Wilcott (Niece) on: Mar 14, 2012

  • Here is a 78 year old man who took the bus 3 times a week from St. Vital to the Health Sciences Centre for a month to come and sit with me during my 45 day stay in the Fall of 98. He knew how lucky I was to survive such an accident being a Roll Handler himself at the mill, and he reminded me every time he sat with me. I will never forget those moments together we had. Say hi to all the old Finishing Room Boys for me Dad! I will miss you! - Posted by: Ian Cyr (Son-In-Law) on: Mar 13, 2012

  • I was one of many who Uncle Paul gave driving lessons to back home in Powerview and I have many fond memories of spending time visiting and getting together for family gatherings. Uncle Paul and Aunty Jeannette(my godparents)always welcomed me with a smile when I came to the door for a visit growing up and spending time with my cousin Denise. My condolences to all of the family. - Posted by: Elaine Berthelette (niece) on: Mar 13, 2012

  • Pepere, So many fond memories to choose from, you've left us a beautiful legacy! My favorite will always remain sitting at your bar downstairs and drinking 7up from one of your special bar glasses. It always made us kids feel special to sit where the grownups were supposed to sit! My Dad would tell us stories of how strict you were when he was growing up, but our experience was always the doting grandfather with a kind smile. Love you! - Posted by: Dawn Crouch (granddaughter) on: Mar 13, 2012
