Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMORRIS HUGH MacMILLAN November 28, 1916 - March 17, 2012 It is with great sadness and with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, at his home, with his family by his side, at the age of 95 years. Morris will be lovingly remembered by Alice, the love of his life for over 60 years, his children Linda (Bill), Brian (Joy), Debbie (Will), Iris (Robert) and Marilyn (Rob). He will also be sadly missed by his twelve grandchildren, Dana, Allison, Geoffrey, Halley, Alonzo, Grace, Elliott, Bennett, Nicole, Ryan, Justin and Richard; along with his seven great-grandchildren, Eric, Alex, Charlie, Lydia, Levi, Delaney and Grady. Morris is survived by brothers, Neil (Faye) MacMillan, Kenny (Joan) MacMillan, and sister, Christina Bowman; sisters-in-law Rita MacMillan and Dorothy MacMillan and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Neil and Elenor; stepmother, Gladys; sisters Amy Larcombe, Elsie Laramee and Muriel Anderson; and brothers Rolland and Archie MacMillan. Morris was born at home and raised on the family farm near Poplar Heights, Manitoba. In 1940, when Morris was 24 years old he bought his current farm, at which he has resided his whole life. In 1951, he married Alice Doherty and together spent their years building up their farm and raising their five children. Throughout the years, Morris was actively involved in the community. He was a director on the Meadow Lea hall board from 1960, until the new hall was built in 1983. He was a member of the Woodlands Community Pasture board. He was a school trustee for the Meadow Lea School and he was on the board when they amalgamated with Warren in 1965. He was both an elder and steward of the Meadow Lea Church. He was a director on the Meadow Lea Curling Rink Board. He also helped with the caretaking of the Meadow Lea Cemetery. In their later years, Morris and Alice enjoyed travelling throughout Canada and the States. Together they actively enjoyed following their grandchildren around the provinces to their many sporting events. For many years they were active with the Seniors Bowling League in Stonewall, where they made many new friendships, quitting when Morris turned 90. Morris loved to dance and was a wonderful dancer, and they went to many old time dances at Meadow Lea Hall. Morris had a good sense of humour and loved a good laugh. He loved to watch wrestling on TV and went into Winnipeg to see it at the arena and any other place that had TV to watch it on. Morris took pride in the achievements of his children and grandchildren whether it be scholastic, sports, a new job, or a new vehicle. Family was very important to him and he loved everyone of us. He was a hard worker and installed that same work ethic in his children; he believed if you worked hard everything would fall into place. My family the time for me is truly past I have loved you all to the very last Weep not for me, but courage take And love one another for my sake A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2012, at Meadow Lea Hall. The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to the many Home Care staff who helped in Morris's care, and enabled him to remain at his home, which he loved. Flowers are gratefully declined. If you wish to make a donation in Morris's memory, it may be sent to the Meadow Lea United Church (c/o Box 52, Marquette, MB. R0H 0V0).
