SABLIN ERLING LINDE Peacefully on March 19, 2012 Sablin passed away at the Ashern Personal Care Home at the age of 98 years. Sablin was born in Winnipeg, MB on September 15, 1913 to Selma and Eric Linde. He grew up in Hilbre where he worked with his father in his Fish Box Factory and farm. Some of his greatest times were cutting and hauling logs. In 1944, he joined the army for a short time and was based in Winnipeg. Sablin worked at the Gypsumville Air Force Base in the power plant for seven years. Following this he carried on with his hobby restoring his steam tractor on the family farm. Sablin was a soft spoken, gentle man who loved spending time with family and friends. One of his greatest enjoyments was the violin - listening to, dancing and playing old time music. At home, he took pride in stoking the wood stove. He loved flying over the Interlake with his sons John and Eric every chance he had. Sablin is survived by his wife Florence, of 64 years; his son John (Karen), grandchildren Ian and Stefan; son Eric (Karen), grandchildren Kristen (Craig) and Craig (Rhonda); daughter Bev, grandchildren Kelvin (Tamara), Quentin (Michelle) and Mandy, along with 10 great-grandchildren. Sablin was predeceased by his sisters Ruth (Mayer) and Linnea (Cameron). A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at the Ashern Legion Hall with Pastor Bill Watson officiating. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the hall. Lunch will be held immediately after the service with an interment to follow in the Hilbre Cemetery. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the doctors and staff of the Ashern Personal Care Home for the dedicated care Sablin received. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Ashern Personal Care Home, c/o Margaret Gutknecht, P.O. Box 110, Ashern, MB R0C 0E0.
