Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDITH DOROTHEA MCKINNON With her family by her side, Edith passed away peacefully on March 18, 2012. She will be forever missed by her daughter Marlene and son-in-law Al Henuset, her son Don and daughter-in-law Judi McKinnon, and her son Kenneth McKinnon. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very special to Edith as she was very special to each of them. She has truly left a huge space in the hearts of Jennifer, Geoffrey, Jason, Kristi, Colin, Rebecca, Allisha and Karissa. Edith was born on April 27, 1921 to Julius and Elsie Weigelt in Moosehorn, Manitoba. At the age of 16 she moved to Winnipeg to begin a new adventure on her journey through life. As was common for many women of her generation, she spent many years working for the T. E. Eaton Company. It was during this period of her life that she met, fell in love with and married her best friend and life companion, Donald McKinnon. They were looking forward to celebrating their 55 year wedding anniversary when Edith's life was turned upside down with the passing of Donald on August 23, 1999. Edith was one of eight children. She was predeceased by her infant brother Ernie Weigelt, her sisters Helen Conway and Freda Klatt, and her brother Herb Weigelt. She is survived by her sisters Margaret Jeffery and Florence Weigelt, and her brother Alfred Weigelt, as well as many nieces and nephews. Edith often expressed her gratitude for the outstanding care and kindness she received from all of the staff on the 2nd floor of Lions Personal Care. Our family is also very appreciative for the amazing thoughtfulness they have shown us during Mom's final days. A celebration of Edith's life will take place on Friday, March 23 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Edith's friend, Archdeacon Godfrey Mawejje, will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations, in remembrance of Edith, may be made to a charity of choice with consideration given to Lions Personal Care Centre, 320 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3B 2W6.
