GERALDINE ELLERBECK
Date of Passing: Mar 21, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGERALDINE ELLERBECK On March 21, 2012 cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, Geraldine May Ellerbeck (nee Roberts) (Stockley), passed away nine days shy of her 80th birthday after a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). Gerry passed away at home with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren always at her side and constantly surrounded by their love. The motto Live, love and laugh , inscripted on a necklace that she wore every day, sums up the way Gerry lived her life. She was truly loved by everyone she encountered; always on the go, eager to try new things, meet new people and get the most out of every moment of life. She cared about people; was generous with her time and resources, and enjoyed every day, while always living life on her own terms. As a young woman, Gerry worked hard to support her family as a single mother. She worked at Shell Oil and then B.A. Robinson Lighting for many years, where she was known as one of the golden girls . She often shared fond memories of her work colleagues from this time. It was at B.A. Robinson that she met her second husband, John Ellerbeck, with whom she shared many great adventures traveling and spending time at their cottage in Ponemah, Manitoba. Retirement did not slow Gerry down. In between caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Gerry was bowling in the league with friends at Academy Uptown Lanes, line dancing with the gang at R.A. Steen Community Centre and hosting and playing cribbage with the Sons of Scotland. She was always eager to share her time and energy to work with children, and she volunteered in the speech therapy program at Carpathia School and read with young children at Frontier College for many years. Gerry is survived by her children Sandra Gartside and John Roberts (Helen); grandchildren Toreena, Crystal (Jeff), April (Scott) and Stephen; great-grandchildren Angelina and Vincenzo, sister Diane, sister-in-law Hazel and a large extended family. She was predeceased by Sandra and John's father Jack, beloved brother Bill, father Charlie, mother Doris, and husband John. Gerry was the glue that held her family together and an inspiration to many, who will all miss her greatly. Her family would like to thank the dedicated staff at the ALS Society, the Motor Neuron Clinic at Deer Lodge Hospital, and the excellent palliative care team who all made it possible for her to stay at home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the ALS Society of Manitoba. A service will be held at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway in Winnipeg, on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. THOMSON FUNERAL HOME 669 BROADWAY, WINNIPEG, MB R3C 0X4 783-7211 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsonfuneralchapel.com

Geraldine Ellerbeck was the sweetest sister ever. I soo enjoyed meeting her for the first time. It's too bad we were not living closer to each other so that we could enjoy us and our children. - Posted by: Dianne Baine Nee Matthews (sister) on: Jan 21, 2019

Linda and I travelled to Winnipeg to honor the life of Ger. Her son and daughter and beautiful children will have fond memories to last a lifetime. I felt a special connection with Ger that I will cherish. Her visits with Bertha will be remembered forever. Thank you Ger for being there when we couldn't. - Posted by: rick and linda smith (cousins) on: Apr 09, 2012

Gerry was a wonderful lady...the cup was always half full with her ...we will miss Gerry. Although we didn't see her often, we always heard from her at least once a year ... she always had a smile on her face and we are happy that she was a part of our life! Our deepest sympathy to Sandy, John and all the grandchildren and great- grandchildren. Cherish the time you had with Gerry and hopefully time will heal the sorrow you are feeling. Gerry was the sweetest sister anyone could hope for. Unfortuately, we did not live close to each other but the times we could get together were wonderful. My children were so fond of her even though they only were in her company a few times. That was the effect she had on everyone. She will be greatly missed. The world needs more people just like her. Im grateful that I was her sister and was able to know her and her lovely family. - Posted by: Dianne Carol Matthews (Sister) on: Mar 25, 2012
