WILLIAM FREDERICK KAMINSKY October 12, 1917- March 21, 2012 On Wednesday, March 21, 2012 Bill passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 94. Bill was predeceased by his first wife Edna (Harder) and parents Fred and Helene and infant brother Jakob. He is survived by his wife, Reidun, his son, Warren (Debbie) and their children Paul and Carly (Derek) and sister Janis and friend Ellen. He leaves as well Rae's family Eugene, Wayne (Nancy), Donna and their families. Bill was born, raised, and farmed in Brunkild. For many years Bill drove a school van in Brunkild, worked at Carling Brewery, and when he later retired to Winnipeg he worked at H and R Block. His interest in farming continued long after his retirement. He loved a good bargain and running into old friends at Polo Park. Bill kept up with history and current events and was often caught snoozing in his chair with the weather channel on. The family would like to especially thank Winston Reinsch for his many visits as well as the fifth floor staff at the Misericordia Health Centre for their care and compassion. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Bill's memory to Heart and Stroke Foundation 200-6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. Condolences & Memories (10 entries)

  • Grandpa Bill was a kind and gentle soul. He always welcomed me with much love each time I would come for a visit from B.C. I will most miss Grandpa Bill's quick and clever wit and the twinkle in his eyes. I feel very fortunate to have visited with him when I was last out in Winnipeg in September. He still had that twinkle and that is how I will always remember him. I love you Grandpa Bill, you were a very special man. Our thoughts are with you Grandma Rae, Warren, Janice and families, Thomas, Rae-Ann & Shaughnessy Gleig - Posted by: Rae-Ann Gleig (Pochinko) (Grand Daughter) on: Apr 09, 2012

  • My Grandpa Bill, as you all know was a very loving, gentle, and caring man. He loved and cared for my grandma very much. My very first memories of my Uncle Bill were of him in their apt. after a night, sleeping alone in the spare room, listening to the strange noises, bright lights of the city, I was scared... Very scared. I ran so fast into my grandma and grandpa's room and jumped right into their bed. Bill kindly moved over and made sure I felt safe. In the morning I awoke to Bill sitting in his chair, shaving in his chair looking in his little mirror. "The early Bird catches the worm," he would say, but what he really ment was ...the first one in the door gets the best deals. Yep day after day after day... My grandpa would walk to the corner pay fair for crushed cans, and broken boxes, anything for a deal day after day, I mean how many cans of soup do you really need? (lol). And yes there was also Money Hill, a small hill out side his apartment that my two older brothers Randy and Lance would slide down in the winter and always come in with change in their pockets (nickels, dimes and the odd time quarters), I think uncle Bill put them there to keep them out longer. I would be sad that they had money and I did not. Little did they know, my grandpa would take me in the other room and give me coins too. Yes Bill loving and caring. Later when they moved to their first home on Rutland my younger brother Richard and I would always walk to Bruce Park, just off Ness, to feed the ducks (my grandpa loved animals)after a short History lesson and a few hours in the sun we would start our walk home... But never before a quick stop for an ice cream or slurpie at the local 7/11, also our trips to the local swimming pool. Rick and I would swim and grandpa would chat with all his neighbors. He was also a great History buff. Once I had a project due in History. I did not have to go to the library because I would phone Grandpa Bill, and he told me all I had to know about the Manitoba Pioneers. My Grandpa also had a great laugh. Maybe the best laugh ever. His hehehe and hahaha is one no one will ever forget. When the Hunky Bill perogy maker came out we all called it the "Uncle Bill Perogy Maker". And when Leon's had their Hold the payment event, Grandpa would do the HoHoHo! Once he laughed so hard his teeth fell out, and we laughed even harder. He also loved his cat puss puss. I asked him grandpa? Why do you call the cat puss puss? And as a wise man he said "cuz when you call a cat, you always say, Here Puss Puss. See what a smart and simple man he was. Yes my grandpa was a Great man and he will live in my Heart forever. My life is so much greater because I had the privilege to know a man like Grandpa Bill, his kindness and love will be with me always. And like he always told me, Cindy IF There is a Pearly gate, I will be waiting for you on the other side. Grandpa I Thank You for all the love you have given me, and I WILL see you on the other side. Rest in Peace. I Love you. Cindy. - Posted by: Cindy Dranez (Leeson) (Grand Daughter) on: Mar 28, 2012

  • I too had the opportunity to share good memories with Uncle Bill. I can still remember the first day I met him at my Grandma Rae’s apt. I remember his laughter and his keen knowledge on current and not so current events. The way he tracked the weather, and wrote it down. His chair, the weather channel, our Thanksgiving day drives, the puzzles, the way he played with that cat with his cane :), the time we walked and shot pool on Portage Avenue when I was about 13. I remember him as a loving and caring man who didn’t say anything bad about anything, or anyone. He had brought many years of wisdom, happiness and love into my Grandma's home and I will be forever thankful for that. May you rest in peace forever now, you will never be forgotten. God bless you Uncle Bill. - Posted by: Lance Leeson (Reidun's grandson) on: Mar 27, 2012

  • I will always remember the spark in Uncle Bill's laugh and smile. Uncle Bill always had great farm stories to share and seemed to always know a little bit about everything. He always knew what the weather forecast was not only in Winnipeg but another dozen cities around the world. I have many fond memories of grandma and Uncle Bill and must share that they are some of the fondest ones I have as a child. They complemented one another and I am very thankful to have known such a warm and endearing person like my Uncle Bill. Forever in our hearts and in our fondest memories. We will miss you.
