ALVIN HAYES With heavy hearts the family announces the unexpected passing of Alvin Hayes on March 22, 2012 at the Beausejour Hospital. He is survived by Annette (Chic), his beloved wife of 57 years, sons Darryl and Terry (Elaine), and grandsons Kyle, Ryan, Mitchell and Alex who brought a great deal of joy and pride into his life and an earful into the lives of others. Alvin was predeceased by his brother Sandy, sister Irene and daughter-in-law Annette ever loved and ever missed. Alvin was a life-time resident of Beausejour, growing up in the Beausejour Hotel. A great sports enthusiast, Alvin curled, golfed and, throughout the 1950s, played shortstop on the famous Beausejour hardball team. His great accomplishment as a pianist was modestly referred to by Alvin as his tinkling of the ivories , which he showcased during many local concerts and events. He was a founding member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce and chaired the Board of Directors for the Beausejour Housing Authority for 12 years. Alvin was employed by the M.L.C.C. but found his niche when he became the assistant music director of the E.S.S Orchestra. Many lunch hours would find him jamming with the students. He enjoyed pegging points at the Legion and Beau Head. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 28 at 2:30 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel, 1035 Park Avenue E., Beausejour, MB. If friends desire donations can be made to Royal Canadian Legion #132 or St. James Anglican Church (Beausejour). I knew Mr. Hayes through ESS orchestra and was one of those students jamming with him at lunch. Goodbye, Mr. Hayes. We have lost a very delightful man. - Posted by: Mailis Rigey () on: Mar 27, 2012

I was saddened to hear of Mr. Hayes' recent passing because he was such a lovely, special man. I was a member of the ESS orchestra and shared a love of the piano with Mr. Hayes, who tickled the ivories with such pizazz..he made it look effortless as his hands glided across the keys. He'd play a part of a Gershwin song and then like that, he'd go back to work searching for lost sheet music or repairing an instrument. Mr. Hayes was also back lane neighbors to my grandparents in Beausejour, and I don't know how many times my sister Lisa and I would stop by to say hello while he was cutting grass or doing yard work - he always had time to chat. My deepest sympathies to Mrs. Hayes and your family. I'm sure Mr. Hayes is playing for the angels now. God bless. - Posted by: Sara Hutniak (Friend ) on: Mar 27, 2012

Mr. Hayes was a gentleman, who always had a smile and a how you doing, whenever we met. Our daughters Sara and Lisa, as well as us, appreciated his commitment to the ESS Orchestra that they were proud members of. He always called them his girls, something they enjoyed hearing. Our condolences to Chic and family. Bonny, Don, Sara and Lisa Hutniak. - Posted by: Bonny and Don Hutniak (Friends) on: Mar 26, 2012

I grew up in Beausejour and have vivid memories of Alvin Hayes. I remember him as a mench- a Yiddish word that roughly means a man of substance. Good-bye Alvin. My condolences to his family. Allan Meltzer, Ottawa - Posted by: Allan Meltzer (Friend) on: Mar 26, 2012
