CLIFFORD GEORGE LAWRENCE August 18, 1925 - March 23, 2012 Surrounded by the love of his family, Cliff passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospital, after a brief bout of pneumonia, on Friday, March 23, 2012. Cliff was the only child of George Aberdeen and Carrie Viola Lawrence (nee Johnston). He is survived by his caring wife and partner of 62 years, Norma (nee Weir), and by his three children, Valerie (Luigi), Mark and Melanie (Ken), and by his ten grandchildren, Robert, Matthew, Christopher and Adam Fasoli; Paul, Zee and Taylor Lawrence and their mother, Darlene Young; Jessica Bullen, Kaitlyn and Jeannine Shumilak, and by five (nearly six) great-grandchildren. Cliff was born in Winnipeg, spending time at the farm at Glenora. He worked in banking, then 30 years with the W.T. Rawleigh Co., as well as business ventures with Lake Haven Motel in Grand Marais, The Oakville Hotel and Luff Industries. He was a 60 year member of the Sturgeon Creek Masonic Lodge A.F. and a.m., No. 145 and was a volunteer driver for CancerCare for 14 years. He had a passion for the great outdoors (especially duck hunting), gun collecting, and Studebakers. Heartfelt thanks go to the compassionate team at Grace Hospital, Rev. Deborah Vitt, and special home care workers, for your diligent care. A celebration of life and masonic service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 27 at the Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Ave., across from Brookside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations, if desired, may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE (204) 949-2200 nbardal.mb.ca

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Although our family has known the Lawrence family for many years, we did not meet Fred until the winter of 2009/2010, on the beach in Mismaloya, Mexico. Our meeting with Melanie and Ken, along with Valerie and Luigi, along with Fred was unexpected, but was extremely delightful. Fred had a great sense of humour and fit in so very well with everyone he met. Our deepest sympathies are extended to the entire Lawrence family and we hope that the Grace of God and your fond memories of Fred will bring comfort to you at this difficult time. - Posted by: Don & Carolyn Halbert (Friend) on: Mar 26, 2012

  • For 20 years Cliff and Norma participated in the Lawn Dart Tournament at Grand Marais. We have such fond memories of the games, sitting around the campfire and singing songs from the olden days. Cliff was a cheerful, wonderful man who was always there to lend a hand. He will be greatly missed. Our condolences to the family. - Posted by: Ken and Joan Einarson (Friends and Grand Marais Neighbours ) on: Mar 26, 2012

  • Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time of loss. May you find comfort in each other and reminisce about the good memories that you shared with Clifford for future generations to cherish. - Posted by: Corinne Fasoli Tucker (Family) on: Mar 26, 2012
