Born: Oct 06, 1921
Date of Passing: Mar 24, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM DOBRINSKY October 6, 1921 - March 24, 2012 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear father on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at the age of 90 years. He was predeceased by his wife Nellie Dobrinsky (nee Magdy) of 52 years; his father and mother, Stefan and Lena Dobrinsky, his brothers John Dobrinsky, Steve Dobrinsky and Fred Dixon, and his sisters Anne Bachman, Mabel Olynyk and Evelyn Gabbs. Left to cherish his memory are his sisters Eleanor (Nerky) McMillan, Dee Clark and his numerous nephews and nieces; as well as his five children, Beverly, Bill Jr., Carol, Cynthia (Burke-Gaffney), and Maureen (Weidman); six grandchildren, Maria Dobrinskaya (David Speight), Nik Dobrinsky, Samara Weidman, and Sarah, Conor and Ryan Burke-Gaffney; and his great-grandson, William Jacobs Speight. William was born and raised in West Kildonan and grew up during the Great Depression. He enlisted with the Canadian Armed Forces in 1942 serving overseas with the Manitoba Dragoons until 1946. Following this time he was employed by the city of Winnipeg for 47 years until his retirement in 1996. He started as a road grader operator and rose through the ranks to Supervisor of Inspections. He was honoured by the city on his retirement by the naming of a street after him - Dobrinsky Drive. Dad had many passions and talents. He was the original recycler and could fix anything. He took pride in his garden and enjoyed the fruits of his labour with his wife's cooking and canning. Our Dad taught us the importance of family, how to laugh and to enjoy life. He taught us how to live life to the fullest. He will be greatly missed. We would like to thank all the staff of the Grace Hospital ICU for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Winnipeg Harvest or Siloam Mission. A Memorial service will be held Thursday, April 5 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St., West St. Paul, Manitoba. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111 www.gleneden-mb.ca

When I was a kid, Nellie and Bill Dobrinsky lived next door to my best friend, Bobby Wasnick. Bob lived directly across the street from me on Kilbride. We spent many hours talking with Bill, who had infinite patience to put up with a couple of bothersome kids. He told us war stories, explained what haggis was, and told us a million other things. His daughter Beverley used to push peanuts through their mail slot for Bob and me to eat. Thanks for everything, Bill! - Posted by: Bill Stevens (Former neighbour) on: Mar 31, 2012
