Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryESTHER MARY WILSON (nee HAMMOND) October 1, 1918 March 28, 2012 Esther Mary Wilson passed away peacefully at Tuxedo Villa on March 28, 2012 at age 93. Mary is survived by her sister Dorothy Lauder; brothers Larry (Betty) and Bob (Elinor); and sister-in-law Margaret Harris. She is predeceased by her parents Grant and Esther Hammond; brother Charlie and sister Shirley. Mary was born in Winnipeg spending her early years in the family home on Ingersoll Street. She attended Greenway, General Wolfe and Daniel McIntyre Collegiate followed by many years employment at Paulin Chambers Biscuit Co. where she made lifelong friends. Although Mary was not blessed with children of her own, she endeared herself to many nieces and nephews who adored her. When Shirley's husband Tom Lumsden, died suddenly leaving two young children, Michael and Marnie, Mary stepped in and played a significant role in their upbringing. Mary always had a smile for everyone but especially for young children. She loved joking and playing games with her nieces and nephews especially if it was at a time when it gave their parents a break. Her greatest enjoyment was always in helping others. Many happy summers were spent at the family cottage at Whytewold. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 14 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. Aunty Mary. You will always be remembered as the most kind and loving person in our family. You were once described to me as a saint, which only begins to describe your endless patience, understanding, selflessness and generosity. My deepest condolences to all of the family on the loss of their sister and aunt Mary. I know my sister Betty was very fond of her and visited her often. My childhood memory of Mary was of a very lovely young lady who always had time to chat. May God be with the family during this time of grief.
