SARA (SAL) BUCHANAN (nee THOMAS) Peacefully with her family by her side, on Friday, March 30, 2012 at the Deer Lodge Centre, Sara passed away in her 97th year. She was predeceased by her husband Alex in 1990, and her siblings Mary, Peggy, and Alexander Buddy . Sara will be lovingly remembered by her sons Garth (Donna) and Grant (Mary), her grandchildren Gregory (Lynette), Glenn (Nicole) and Keelia, her great-grandchildren Alasdair and Murdoch, her step-grandchildren Mindy, Sarah (Kevin), Amy (Brian) and Jamie and her step-great-grandchildren Kaleigh and Charlie. She is also survived by her sisters Anna McNeil and Jessie Fielding, both from Boston, MA, USA, as well as many nieces and nephews. Mom was born and raised in Glace Bay, NS in 1915 to George and Catherine Thomas. She served three years in the R.C.A.F. where she met her husband. They married in 1943 in Montreal then moved to Winnipeg after the war. After the birth of her twins, Sara enjoyed spending time with her family and volunteering at the Children's and Deer Lodge Hospitals. In their retirement years, Mom and Dad traveled extensively, especially to Hawaii. Friends were very important to Mom, she spent many hours with all her friends at the Air Force Association, The Deer Lodge Community Centre and the Assiniboine Golf Club. Sara found great comfort in her faith and was a member of Blessed John XXIII Parish. She was a devoted mother and Nana and took great pride and delight in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at the Deer Lodge Centre especially on T4 for their care and compassion given to Mom. A Memorial service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 3 at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue.
