Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGIGI LEE RESTALL 1954 - 2012 Peacefully surrounded by love and family, Gigi Lee (Pan Gen) Restall passed away on Sunday, April 1, 2012. Gigi leaves behind her adoring husband, Sidney; loving children, Sheilah Lee (Ryan) and Sean Roe; siblings, Betty Wong (Danny), Juana Karrim (Arifin), Choi Lee (Kitty), Lamford Li (Yoko); in-laws, John Restall (Jan), Ian Restall (Leah), Frank Restall (Lorrie), Bernadine Shortt (Brian); numerous nieces and nephews, as well as her spoiled and beloved third child: her shih-tzu Didi. Meeting her at the Gates will be her parents, Lee King Yung and Lee Shaw Man Sin; sisters, Shirley Hsing and Jenny Leung; niece, Juliana Karrim; and her parents-in-law, Bernadine Roe and John Restall. Gigi was born in Hong Kong on August 16, 1954 as Lee Pan Gen. Given the name of Joyce in elementary school, Gigi showed at a young age her strong-willed nature by renaming herself to Gigi. At the age of 17 she moved to Canada, by herself, to further her education. She attended Brandon University and the University of Winnipeg, achieving a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Business Administration Certificate. In 1980, she married her best friend Sidney Roe Restall, and in 1984 gave birth to their daughter Sheilah Lee, and then their son in 1986, Sean Roe. Gigi was a devoted and wonderful Mom, who sacrificed career to raise her children until they were both launched into grade school. She always instilled in them, in a loving and supportive manner, the concept of hard work, diligence, and industry. She manifested these characteristics by consistently pursuing training, culminating in attaining a Bachelor of Education degree at the University of Manitoba in 2006, the same year her daughter, Sheilah, graduated from the Commerce Faculty. Gigi was an active and enthusiastic woman, filled with happiness and energy. She was very much involved in her community and loved to devote her time to book clubs, classes, dinner parties and various social activities. Gigi had a big heart, and with her sisters and brothers so far away, built around herself groups of friends whom she loved deeply. Through her hard work and perseverance, Gigi excelled in her career, and found great joy in her role as a business teacher at Winnipeg Technical College. Gigi was a caring and active educator, who nurtured and loved her students. Above and beyond her actions as a teacher, Gigi also was also heavily involved in the community at her school. Gigi faithfully served the members of the Winnipeg Technical College Teachers' Association of the Manitoba Teachers' Society for many years. Gigi was President of the Association from 2007 to 2009 as well as a member of numerous association committees which included Collective Bargaining. Gigi was actively engaged in advancing the well-being and interests of her teaching colleagues both locally and at the provincial level. Gigi's dedication to her profession and her fellow colleagues was absolute. On October 18, 2010, Gigi described herself during an interview as follows: Married for 30 years to the same man who makes me laugh everyday. I am blessed to have a daughter who shares the same hobbies. A son who thinks I am a Luddite even though I taught them how to use a computer in the first place. Originally came from Hong Kong to study, lived in Winnipeg ever since I met my husband at the university and the rest is history. He never managed to learn a word of Chinese, I never learned how to cut grass either. No plans for retirement yet, will get too bored... A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 155 Bannerman Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gigi's memory may be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church, 155 Bannerman Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2W 0T3. Gigi and I went to same the same high school. It was those good old days that life is simpler and relationship is sincere. Gigi taught me how to be a true friend even though I was too immature to understand. So rest peacefully my friend as we shall see each other again. No more tears, no more sorrow, only smiles and laughter from heaven above, - Posted by: C Chan (Long lost friend) on: Feb 06, 2017

I met Sid & Gigi through a mutual friend while attending Tabernacle Baptist Church. We shared some good times. I recall watching Sheilah one evening and having her fall asleep on me. Gigi couldn't believe it and wanted to know my secret. Sid, I was shocked and very saddened to hear of Gigi's passing. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this very difficult time. - Posted by: Shelley Brown (Friend) on: Apr 09, 2012

I worked with Gigi when we were both involved with the tearchers' union. Giji was committed to the welfare of teachers and students. Her honesty, kindness, sense of integrity, and huge warm smile were refreshing. She did her best to make this world a better place and to make a difference in the lives of others. I am so sorry to hear the loss of our caring, kindhearted teacher. She was always an inspiration to us, especially mature students who stayed home to take care of their kids. Once I told her this. She was so thrilled to hear this. Gigi, I thought of bringing you a coffee someday. You must be smiling about this. You will be terribly missed in my life. - Posted by: Beena Thomas ( Student) on: Apr 05, 2012

I met Gigi in Y Neighbors back in the 80's when our children were toddlers. She was an exuberant, enthusiastic and often strongly opinionated ally - it was a pleasure to spend time with her! She taught me (and the rest of our group) the ins and outs of dim sum - forever grateful! Shocked and saddened to know her bright smile and laugh will not be heard anymore. My thoughts go out to her husband and children, friends and family. - Posted by: Lee Pammer (Y Neighbors Companion) on: Apr 05, 2012
