Date of Passing: Apr 09, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRONALD JOHN SEREDIUK Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely, in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, "Wow---What a ride!!!" This ride, as the saying goes, is how I have lived my life. I had fun, many blessings, career accomplishments, life challenges and the love of friends and family, but unfortunately my ride ended on April 9, 2012. I was born in Vita, Manitoba on February 19, 1964 to my parents Dorothy and Nick Serediuk (deceased). I was the fourth oldest of six children and my siblings are Terry (Janis), Orest (Marlene), Ken (deceased), Colleen (Harvey) and Gary. I was proud of my Ukrainian heritage and family has always been very important to me. I made a point to keep in touch with relatives in Manitoba and across the country as they were only a phone call away. I attended school in Vita, Steinbach and Winnipeg. I attended Red River College where I took Business Accountancy and also attended the University of Manitoba and later successfully completed several HR courses and certifications. Professionally, I started my career in Accounting with Investors Group and later moved into the Human Resources field, a career that I have loved. In addition to HR at IG, I worked at Air Canada, Society for Manitobans with Disabilities (SMD), Alberta Pension Benefits, Convergys and the Winnipeg Convention Centre. I was particularly interested in employee relations and ensuring the environment supported people in making their best contributions and that it was a fun place to work. I prided myself on my negotiations skills and liked to plan and coordinate events that made things enjoyable and better for others in some way. I believed in giving back to the community. Colleagues and friends alike knew me as a direct communicator, with a matter of fact, see it - say it approach. I loved a good laugh and used my sense of humour to challenge rather than offend others. I particularly enjoyed kibitzing with my mother and treasured my phone calls and visits with her. I loved games, especially cribbage, and in my spare time I enjoyed going antiquing and to flea markets. I liked to find deals and bargains. Interior design and cooking were hobbies that were enjoyed and I also treasured old family photos. In recent years I had the good fortunate to find a special friend and partner Ted, and we became inseparable. We found a depth of love, respect and companionship that I never thought possible. We shared an unconditional love, understanding and commitment to one another that would only deepen and widen over time. I will love you and will miss you always Ted. I never wanted to upset anyone and so I ask that when you think of me and good times we may have enjoyed, that you simply... Be Gladand don't feel sad!! I can't believe it, I was googling Ron's name and came by this obituary. I found a lot of comfort in Ron through high school, he was a great friend. I miss the good old days where he would take what little money I had in card games and feed me with all his Mom's home cooking. We lived close to each other on Magnus Ave. I lost track of you my friend after high school and now I have a deep regret. I am sure you are loved up there as you had a way of making everyone who knew you smile. - Posted by: Don Campbell (highschool friend) on: Jun 20, 2012

I just learned today of Ron's passing, and I am deeply saddened. I worked with Ron at Investors, for many years. We lost touch but met again, when we was working at the Convention Centre. I was thrilled, as we would bump into each other at various functions. He always had a smile on his face and we had some good times going to the old Golden Nugget, on Main St. He will be missed! My condolences to his family. - Posted by: Carla Zimmer (Friend) on: May 17, 2012

I am so saddened to hear of Ron's passing. He was just much too young to leave this world. I will always admire his professionalism as the Human Resources Officer at SMD and how he always stood his ground on what he thought was right. He was so pleasant and friendly, always with a smile. He was a very kind, compassionate, and caring man, with a terrific listening ear. He was a very positive influence to me at SMD. I'll never forget the long walk we took and the long talk we had the day I handed in my resignation to move to Edmonton. I will miss seeing you this summer Ron when I come to visit friends and family in Winnipeg. My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time.
