Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARIA MANTLER February 25, 1919 - April 12, 2012 Peacefully, on April 12, 2012, at the age of 93, Maria Mantler (nee Bargen) passed away into the arms of Jesus, at Concordia Hospital. Left to cherish her memory are daughter Linda (Alvin), son Art (Janice), grandchildren Andrew, Stephanie, Jennifer and Matthew; sister Helen, sister-in-law Lily and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Jacob, two sisters and one brother. Maria was born in Altonau, Ukraine; the oldest of five children. She was a high school teacher before the Second World War. Escaping from Russia to Germany, Maria then immigrated to Canada in 1947. She worked as a housekeeper during the day and attended school in the evenings. Maria then worked at Independent Jewellers for seven years as a bookkeeper. In 1957, she married Jacob Mantler. Maria served for years as Sunday School and German School teacher at Central MB Church. For the last six years she enjoyed independent living at Kingsford Haus. Maria enjoyed entertaining, baking, gardening, crocheting, knitting and spending time with her grandchildren. Also important to her were her nieces and nephews to whom she was lovingly known as Tante Mariechen. The family would like to thank Dr. Christine Loepp and staff at Concordia Hospital for their loving care. A celebration of Maria's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at Elmwood MB Church, 145 Henderson Hwy. in Winnipeg with viewing prior. Interment at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kingsford Haus available at the service.
