(MARGARET) LYNN STEPHEN -
Born: Jan 20, 1950
Date of Passing: Apr 10, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or Memory(MARGARET) LYNN STEPHEN 1950 - 2012 With sadness we announce Lynn's death. She died peacefully on Tuesday, April 10, 2012. Born January 20, 1950 to Margaret and Jack Stephen, Lynn is survived by her mother Margaret, sister Nancy Hall (Bob), brother David Stephen (Aine, John), niece Marnie Wilson (Richard, Fiona, Callum) and nephews Glenn Hall (Sara) and Greg Hall, cousin Maureen Coe (John), aunts, uncle and cousins as well as her special devoted extended family of Highland dancers, their parents and grandparents, and associates within the Scottish community in Canada and Scotland. Predeceased by her father Jack, sister Marlene and grandparents Hugh and Mary Comack. Lynn's passion and expertise was working with children and teaching. Following graduation from University of Winnipeg (BA 1971), she worked as a Child Life Specialist at Winnipeg Children's Hospital, specializing in play therapy, medical play, art therapy and pre-operative teaching. She lectured locally and in the U.S. regarding her practice and was rightfully proud of her accomplishments in this field. In 1987 Lynn left this role to focus full-time on the Lynn Stephen School of Highland Dance, which enabled her to continue her work with children, focus on her Scottish heritage, and use her creative talents as a choreographer. For over 40 years Lynn taught and mentored children in Highland dance, some as young as age four through to adulthood. She viewed dance as an opportunity to learn life lessons, build character, develop caring relationships, and develop good citizenship. The exemplary support provided by the dance community during Lynn's illness in the form of letters, cards, food, artwork, flowers, phone calls and hours of companionship and care were a tribute to her success and the loving sincerity of her community. Lynn enjoyed many hours of visiting, story-telling, and compassionate care in the past months and she appreciated the efforts of so many who made it possible for her to be in her home, where she was most content. Special thanks to all who have supported Lynn with countless acts of kindness. Thank you to the Palliative Care Program, workers from Comforts of Home and ScotDance Manitoba. A memorial service to celebrate Lynn's life will be held on Wednesday April 18 at 2:00 p.m. at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery.) Memorial donations are gratefully declined; your gifts to Lynn while she lived will always be remembered. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE (204) 949-2200 www.nbardal.mb.ca

I worked with Lynn at Children's Hospital...first on 1 West, then 2 West and then 5 South...and there was no one with work ethics such as hers. I will remember Lynn for all that she had done for the children and families, and also me. She revolutionized Child Life to what it is today, and her compassion for all was unlimited. My thoughts and condolences go out to all. - Posted by: Janice Beckles (friend and Children's Hospital colleague) on: Apr 17, 2012

I had the pleasure of working with Lynn at the Childrens Hospital of Winnipeg where Lynn was an incredibly talented Child Life Specialist who assisted our families with handicapped children who were facing surgical procedures. She also became a good friend and was an admired and in demand member of our surgical team. She made tremendous contributions to many families in her role as a Child Life Specialist. She will be remembered, admired and missed but she made a difference in the lives of her friends, colleagues and families she cared for! Sincere condolences to David and family.
