GLORIA MILLER October 24, 1925 - April 12, 2012 On Thursday, April 12, 2012, surrounded by family and friends, Gloria left this world peacefully at the age of 86. Mom was tremendously loved and admired by her family and will be deeply missed by her two daughters Lynda (Jim Bell), Sharon (Jim Pearce), daughter-in-law Peggy Miller, adopted Scottish daughter Elizabeth Cairns, grandchildren Jeffery (Isabelle) and Jonathon (Melissa), Scott (Heather) and Ryan, Jaclyn (Jeff) and Jamie, and two great-grandsons with one more on the way. She will also be missed by her brother-in-law Bill, four nieces, one nephew, and close friends the Campbells, Bergners and Tscharkes. Gloria was predeceased by her husband Clarke, son Bruce, and infant daughter Shirley June, her brother Bill and sister Shirley. Gloria was born in Winnipeg in 1925 and grew up in the north end. After finishing high school, she attended Normal School where she trained to be a teacher. Her teaching assignments took her to Mowbray and Dugald where her students adored her and many remember her to this day. In 1944 she met Clarke, a handsome young Air Force officer, on a blind date, which transformed into love at first sight. They married in 1946 and raised their family in the Riverview area where they lived for over 40 years. Gloria's greatest joy was in the raising of her children and instilling in them a sense of humour and the true meaning of family. Gloria's interests were many and diverse: sports, theatre, music, reading, sewing, knitting, cooking, entertaining, gardening and traveling. She was friendly, outgoing, and genuinely enjoyed people. She made a lasting impression on everyone she met. The family would like to thank the staff on Cornish 2 at the Misericordia Health Centre who provided our mother with gentle and loving care, and the steady stream of visitors who made our mother's final days a celebration of her life. Cremation has already taken place, and a memorial service for Gloria will be held at Churchill Park United Church, 525 Beresford Avenue, on Thursday, April 19 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Gloria to the Misericordia Health Centre Foundation, 99 Cornish Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3C 1A2, Churchill Park United Church, or a charity of your choice. Gloria's motto was Live, Love, Laugh . She lived it every day of her life. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE (204) 949-2200 www.nbardal.mb.ca

  • The Miller family has been a wonderful part of our family ever since we can remember. Auntie Gloria made every visit so special and we adored her. • I had the pleasure of meeting Gloria when she moved into the same retirement residence as my Mother. It only took a moment to realize she was one of a kind! She came furniture shopping with my Mother and I one day and she had me laughing all the way to the store and back! She left an impression on me that I often think about her. How lucky Gloria's family was to have such a warm, funny and amazing woman in their lives. - Posted by: Susan Harrison () on: Apr 20, 2012

  • I fondly remember my dinners at Sharon's house when the two of us were students together at the University of Manitoba. Mrs. Miller set the most elegant table and served the most wonderful food. I was quite shy about it all, at first, it was so lovely, but her warm and gracious hospitality soon made me feel like just another member of the family. I loved you Mrs. Miller. You were truly a great lady! - Posted by: Shelley Marshall (Sharon's Friend) on: Apr 19, 2012

  • I was a young woman in my early twenties when we travelled to Winnipeg as Team BC to compete at the McDonald Lassie (Canadian Women's Curling Championship.) My teammates Lorraine, Lindsay and sister Dawn were in awe of being there - too awed to be scared. Our team driver was none other than Gloria. She was as much a part of our winning the Candian title as any of us or our coach Warren. From the day we met her she remained an important part of all of our lives. Live, laugh, love - Gloria's mantra - became a philosophy I've embraced throughout my life. One of my last great memories of Gloria was at the St. John's Scotties in 1985. Gloria and my Mom were "screeched in" together much to their delight. We celebrate this milestone later with Gloria's jelly shooters. Gloria....I will remember you always. Your wonderful approach to life with the glass always "half full". You were an inspiration for all of us. - Posted by: Robin Wilson (Friend through the curling community) on: Apr 17, 2012

  • I love you. - Posted by: Glenda MacDonald (Friend) on: Apr 17, 2012
