EDNA DOROTHY HALL (nee CONNOR) Edna passed away peacefully, at the age of 97 years, at Concordia Place on March 4, 2012 with family and good friend Donna Boutang by her side. Edna was born in Chatham, Ontario August 9, 1914 to Bertha and Lorne Connor. When she was seven, her family moved from Ontario to a farm near Brownlee, Saskatchewan. As a teenager, during the depression, her family moved again to Moose Jaw. She met her husband-to-be, Vincent Hall in her early 20s and they were married in Moose Jaw in June 1939. They had three children, Connor, Marion and Shannon and after living in Moose Jaw for 20 years, the family moved to Winnipeg in 1959. Edna enjoyed singing in the choir at John Black Memorial United Church for many years. She could not attain her Grade 12 as a teenager due to the depression, but at the age of 65, she achieved that goal on her own by studying at home. She and her husband Vince loved square dancing and continued doing so well into their 80s. They spent their retirement years spending winters at The Grove in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas and their summers at the cabin on the Winnipeg River near Lac Du Bonnet. Edna enjoyed travelling, swimming and loved doing her New York Times crosswords. She had a common sense approach to daily life and advised people on problems without them realizing that she had done so. Her gracious and sincere manner in dealing with everyone, and her love and devotion to her family earned her great respect from all who knew her. Edna is survived by daughters Marion (Louis), Shannon (Blake); daughter-in-law Barbara, and by grandchildren, Blair (Keiley), Darren (Amy), Kelly, Tamira (Robby) and Gord. She also has five great-grandchildren. Edna was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Vincent A. J. Hall in 2006 and son Connor in 2000. Her sisters, Claire Lasby, Edith Gentles and brother Morley Connor also predeceased her. The family would like to thank all the staff at Concordia Place for their loving care for our Mom and a special thanks to Donna Boutang and Bill McGregor for their special friendship with Edna. All friends and family are invited to a funeral service and a celebration of Edna's life which will be held at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, Winnipeg, MB at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17, 2012. Flowers gratefully declined but a donation to Heart and Stroke Foundation or Canadian Cancer Society will be appreciated. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111 www.gleneden-mb.ca

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Hi Shannon, the 4 of us would like to send our sincere condolences on the loss of your mother. She was a very special woman, it's nice to see she lived a very long life. I remember all the times both you and your mom asked me for lunch while we were in high school. I distinctly remember her one bit of beauty advice, which was to never forget to moisturize your neck. I wish I had paid more attention to the advice. We think of you often, please stay well and know we remain your good friends. - Posted by: Maxine Sereacki, Marilyn Roy (nee Nastiuk), Cathy Sochasky (nee Kisyk), Norma Grani (high school friends of Shannon Hall) on: Apr 17, 2012
