WILLIAM CHRISTOPHER FISHER (BILL) Suddenly, with grace and dignity at home, Thursday, April 12, 2012 Bill Fisher passed away. Bill was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on January 23, 1939 to Chris and Elsie Fisher. A man of great integrity. He lived as he believed. An Artist. Bill will be fondly remembered as the man behind the lens. Dad was never seen without a camera around his neck. He documented life and shared it with all of us. Whether it was the birth of a new wee one, a loon singing its sad song on the calm waters of Gull Lake in the early morning hours, or a shiny new piece of heavy earth moving equipment at Hoop and Holler Dam, Dad would capture it. And share it through picture and video productions where he incorporated his love of music and often treated us to some opera while we watched the images float by. An Engineer. Bill graduated from the University of Manitoba Faculty of Engineering class of 1964. Bill followed closely in his own father's steps with his involvement in the original floodway construction in 1964 and continued his commitment to the project with the Floodway Expansion in recent years. A career long commitment to flood management, Bill was instrumental in the 1997 Brunkild Dyke project and again in 2011 at Lake St. Martin drain. Bill remained a committed member of the Hugh Munro Construction team right up until the day of his passing, and was respected by both industry and government for his wealth of knowledge and strength of personal character. A Father. Above all dad cherished family. And that circle was large. Dad welcomed so many into his home and his heart. Anyone who made the trek to Gull Lake was treated to a warm welcome at the cabin door and an invitation to rest a while on the dock. Grandchildren were always welcome to help Bumpa' work around the yard or in the garden patch. Left to celebrate his life are his wife Gale Fisher (nee Fields), their four children Kelly Fisher, Laura Kirk, Bethan Fisher and Chris (Julie) Fisher, his cherished grandchildren Meg, Kjira, Chris, Jordyn, Olivia, Isla, Audrey and Gwen, sisters (John) Marni Donetz, Pat Dockery, brother-in-law Bob Jackson, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased are his mom and dad Chris and Elsie Fisher, and sister June Jackson. Funeral Service will be held 4:00 p.m., Thursday, April 19, 2012 at the Trinity United Church, 933 Summerside Ave., Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Civil Engineering Class of 1964 Bursary Fund, Room 422, University Centre, University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3T 2N2.
