Date of Passing: Apr 14, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySHAWN PATRICK GYLES Sadly but peacefully with family by his side, Shawn Patrick Gyles aged 45 years passed away Saturday April 14, 2012. Shawn was predeceased by his Mother, Irene Gyles, and Father, Patrick Gyles. Shawn will be forever and greatly missed by his sister Cheryl Saffie (Dean), niece Melanie Saffie, nephew Christopher Saffie, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Shawn had many supportive friends and two very special people in his life are Elaine Phillips whom he cherished like a sister. Elaine was Shawn's Goldeyes Baseball partner, they could be seen having many laughs together and made many special memories. Rick Targonski was Shawn's main man and casino partner. Rick was always there for Shawn lending a helping hand and running numerous errands. We are truly very thankful for you both! Shawn worked in engineering at MTS from the time he was out of school until present making many cherished lifetime friends. Shawn had been on disability for the past couple of years but managed to keep in touch with his work colleagues. Shawn loved to collect coins as his hobby, his favourite collection being the Canadian Royal Mounted Police Quarters. Shawn has passed this passion onto his nephew, Christopher. Shawn also had a fabulous sense of humour and the nurses could always tell he was feeling better when he would be asking if he could have a Tim Horton's coffee or simply just giving them a hard time. His occupational therapist described Shawn as one of her favourite people, he had a wonderful heart and warm, kind spirit . Thanks Angie and Corinna for all your help, love and support over the years. Shawn was definitely a fighter and people would look at him and think Well if he can do it I can too . He was strong and mighty, would fight and endure any pain or obstacle that came his way. He inspired all who knew him and those who had something to fight for. The pain and suffering is gone, we are thankful for that. Mom and Dad were waiting for you with loving open arms. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal. A memorial service will be held on Monday, April 23, 2012 at 2:00 pm in Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Many thanks to the staff at Health Sciences Centre for many years of care and comfort you have given Shawn. Also, many thanks to the staff at St. Boniface Hospital, for the care and comfort and support during Shawn's final hours. Flowers are gratefully declined but donations can be made in Shawn's memory to a charity of your choice. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. I lived at 13 Valleyview Dr. and cherished the brief friendship we had. He and I played hours of street hockey. I was saddened to read this today. I have thought of him when entertaining coworkers with childhood stories. - Posted by: Claudia George (Neighbour) on: Jan 21, 2014

My most sincere condolences to the Gyles family. I remember Shawn fondly from my time in school in Winnipeg before life took me away across the country. Although life's travels take us to such far and diverse places, for those of us from Winnipeg, our roots always remain there. Rest in peace my friend. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. PLC - Posted by: Philip Carver (School friend) on: Apr 23, 2012

I went to Ness Junior High with Shawn. Shawn, Brian Drachenberg, Todd Demond and I used to hang out and spent many a night a Muriel Park. I remember listening to AC/DC TNT in Shawn's basement at lunch time. Shawn had a tremendous sense of humour and didn't pull any punches. - Posted by: Norm Gould (School friend) on: Apr 21, 2012

I will never forget the many fun times and parties we shared during our school years. We had lots of laughs together both in class and out. He was a great dude. He was a tough man then, and continued to be so all along. I will miss him, but at the same time take some comfort in knowing he is not in anymore pain. - Posted by: Curt Newman (Good Friend) on: Apr 19, 2012

It is with a great sadness and a tear in my eye that I write this letter of condolence to the Gyles/Saffie family. Shawn was a best friend to me growing up. We had many laughs, good times and memorable adventures together. Shawn, you were a true friend through and through and will always hold a special spot in my heart. I will miss you, old friend. Simple words cannot express the emptiness I am feeling inside knowing there will be no more adventures in store for us in the future. I can only take comfort in knowing you have been called to a better place alongside your mom and dad. Your strength and courage to fight on, no matter how tough things became, will always be an inspiration to me. Till we meet again, bro, your friend always, Lyle Buss - Posted by: Lyle Darrin Buss (good friend) on: Apr 19, 2012

Shawn will be sadly missed. It was a shock to hear of his passing. I feel sad that our reconnection wasn't a long one, but I was glad the reconnect happened. The memories of our days listening to AC/DC and Cheech & Chong records in his basement will always be with me (as will all other memories of him). My thoughts are with you. - Posted by: Greg Seguin (friend) on: Apr 19, 2012
