ELMA BORKOWSKY After a lengthy battle with cancer, Elma passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit at the age of 85 years. Left to forever cherish Elma's memory are her sisters, Lorraine (Jake) and Hugo Rempel, Marge (Neil) Yaskow; 14 nieces and nephews; 18 great-nieces and nephews; two great-great-nieces and two great-great-nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Juliana and Frank Borkowsky; siblings and their spouses, Minnie (Frank) Saskowsky, Lillian (Peter H.) Kehler, Elsie (Harry) Schinkel, Adolf (Eleanore) Borkowsky and Edwin Borkowsky. Elma was born in Bristol, MB on March 15, 1927 and was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Friedensfeld, MB. At a young age Elma left the family farm to work at various jobs in Winnipeg and returned to Steinbach to take care of her ailing father. She enjoyed working in the paint department at CT Loewen's and Sons during these years. After his death she returned to Winnipeg and appreciated family visits to Steinbach whenever she had the chance. Elma was an avid Goldeyes fan, loved gardening, travelling to Oshkosh, Wisconsin, watching her family play baseball, hockey, soccer, curl and their musical events. To the end she took a genuine interest in all of the activities her children took part in, even though she could no longer attend their events. Elma was so proud of all their achievements. A very special person in Elma's life was her nephew Hugh Russell Rempel. In spite of the fact that his work takes him all over the world he never lost contact with his Auntie Elma. He constantly brightened her days with calls, visits, laughter and treasures from around the world. The family would like to extend sincere thanks to all the staff of the St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit, Christine and Gerry for their continued kindness and care. A private Celebration of Elma's Life will be held on Wednesday, April 25, 2012. In lieu of flowers, donations in Elma's memory may be made to the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Program.

I have many good memories of Elma when I was a young boy visiting Dent’s English Bacon and Sausage Company (now H.M.S. Foods). Elma always welcomed me with a big smile and I noticed what an efficient worker she was. When I came to work there as a teenager, she was always so friendly and helpful. All of her peers thought the same about Elma. She was such a humble, sweet and caring lady who will be missed. Mothers day is coming and oh how I will miss not sending you flowers. On our visits from Kelowna what good times we shared taking you to your favourite restaurants, and going for sceinic drives. And those long phone calls which always ended with "love you". - Posted by: Doreen McClocklin (Godchild and neice) on: Apr 21, 2012
