SOLI RUSTOMJI BHUMGARA Sadly we announce the passing of a kind and gentle man, Soli Rustomji Bhumgara, gone too soon at the age of 68. He went suddenly at the St. Boniface Hospital on Monday Afternoon, April 16, 2012. He is survived by his beloved wife of 28 years May (nee Nault); stepchildren Brian Biggar, Barry Biggar (wife Sharon, children Daniel and Cynthia), Sandra Rosenberg (husband Mitchell, daughters Madison, Samantha and McKenzie); brother Hushtasp R. Bhumgara (wife Perviz, sons Sarosh and Parish); and sister Benifer H. Patel (husband Hozi, sons Farokh and Rustom). He was predeceased by his father Rustomji J. Bhumgara and mother Homaye (nee Mistry). Born in Zanzibar, Tanzania, he made a career in electronics after studying the trade at Pembridge College in London, England. Recruited by Advance Electronics, Winnipeg, he worked 42 years for the company until his retirement in 2009. A good cook, known for his delicious curries, he enjoyed working on his house, keeping a well-trimmed lawn, and maintaining his cars in fine condition, including a vintage Buick. A lover of music, he was a graceful dancer, too. He sometimes played the slots, for which he always had a golden touch. Travel with his loving wife, and the company of family and friends, made for a well-rounded life. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 20 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue with interment to follow at Assumption Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of choice would be appreciated. For those who wish to sign the online Guest Book please visit our website. Condolences & Memories (21 entries)

  • We lost him so early. I barely had time with him. He may not have been my biological grand father, but he loved me like his own. It’s been nearly 6 years and I still miss him so dearly. I wish I could be sent back in time so I could fix this. The world shouldn’t have lost him. I wish I could be transported back to your basement for one last game of monster or to your bedroom for a movie night. More than anything I just want a hug and you telling me that you love me because I will always love you. Forever more. - Posted by: McKenzie Rosenberg (Grand daughter) on: Jan 02, 2018

  • Soli was a childhood friend. We were a group of six or seven who grew up together in Zanzibar. The memories of life on this paradise island are deeply etched in our minds. From playing on the pearly white beaches, to swimming in the crystal blue waters, to fishing and bicycling, to cricket and badminton, we were blessed with an unforgettable youth. Later in Winnipeg in the seventies, we spent several fun-filled bachelorhood years. Soli was a kind, gentle person, always ready to help others. He will be greatly missed. May, Hustasp, Benaifer, and all your families, please accept my heartfelt condolences. Soli, my friend, go forward into the arms of Ahura Mazda for your well-deserved rest. - Posted by: Aspi Dastur (Childhood friend) on: Apr 24, 2012
