ROBERT GEOFFREY SIZELAND 1918-2012
Date of Passing: Apr 19, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROBERT GEOFFREY SIZELAND 1918-2012 On Thursday, April 19, 2012 Robert (Bob) Sizeland, beloved husband, father, grandfather and uncle passed away at the age of 93 years. He led a long life filled with loyalty and devotion to family and community. Robert was predeceased by his beloved wife Elizabeth (nee Sanders) in 1969, his parents Albert and Anna Desideria Sizeland, his brother Albert and sister-in-law Joyce. He is survived by Marjorie, his wife of 37 years, his children with Elizabeth, son Alan (Nancy McMillan), daughter Morgan (Theodore Fontaine) and Marjorie's daughter Christine Ball. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Elfie (Jay and great-grandson Colton Robert), Eric, Carl (Lisa), Scott and Allison, and extended family Jacqueline, Ron, Sage and Hudson. Robert was Uncle Rob to the children of Al and Joyce, and he enjoyed a loving and vibrant relationship with Bob and Lynda, Gary and Georgi, Karen and Jim, and their children. Robert was born in 1918 and resided in Winnipeg all of his life except for the period from 1941 to 1945, when he served his country with the Royal Air Force in England. While stationed in Sunderland, he met and married his Elizabeth in 1945. They returned to Winnipeg to build a family life together. When discharged from the Armed Forces, Robert was employed by the City of Winnipeg until 1957, when he joined Systems Equipment Limited to become sales and marketing manager. He went on to establish his own business and enjoyed ongoing relationships with many colleagues and business associates. Robert lived a life devoted to the servitude of God and humanity. He loved choral music, played piano/organ and was a member of St. Aidan's Anglican Church choir, where he also served as Superintendent of the Sunday School and as the People's Warden. He sang with the Holy Trinity Anglican Church choir, and was the conductor of the Scottish Rite choir. He was latterly a member of St. John's Cathedral, Holy Trinity and St. Luke's Anglican Churches. Robert was a Past Master of Northern Light Masonic Lodge, a 32nd degree Mason of the Scottish Rite, and a member of the Khartum Shrine, Director's Staff. Always active in community affairs, he volunteered his time to The United Way and served as President of the Christmas Cheer Board for ten years. For the past two years, Robert lived at Deer Lodge Centre, among the fellowship of veterans on Tower 4. He was blessed to receive loving care and companionship of all the staff who dedicate their spirit, talent and skill to the care of their beloved residents. Robert bestowed on all of us his love, gentle humour and gift of storytelling. He was courageous and generous and touched the lives of many. The Holly Snow Shoe Club, which formed in 1905, played an important part in Robert's younger life. He cherished the fellowship and fun with his lifelong friend Ed McNeil and the other Hollies. These men, all good and true, left this world a much better place than before their days. Flowers are gratefully declined. Should friends so desire, donations can be made in Robert's memory to Deer Lodge Centre Foundation, Memorial/Tribute Donation @ https://deer-lodge-oundation.ca/DLF a/memorialDonation.html?form=MemorialTribute. A memorial service will be held Thursday, April 26 at 1:30 p.m. at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Donald at Graham. Old Hollies Never Die. For a space the tired body Waits in peace the morning's dawn, When there breaks the last and brightest Easter Morn. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE (204) 949-2200 www.nbardal.mb.ca

I was very fortunate to meet RG through his stepdaughter, Christine Ball, a cherished friend. I was frequently an overnight guest in their home from 2001-2003 during my visits to Winnipeg for work with the CHN project. I remember both RG and Marjorie as being gracious and welcoming hosts; both were very kind to me. RG's numerous stories were very entertaining as was his affectionate teasing of Christine. My sincere condolences to Marjorie, her daughter, and RG's family. - Posted by: William Land (Friend) on: Apr 22, 2013

Sorry to hear of Bob's passing. My condolences to Marjorie and Alan and the rest of the family. He and other brethren who have passed before him such as Ed McNeil, Hilton Harper, Jo Brown - have all made an indelible impression on me and the lodge. They are missed and they are remembered. I'll remember Bob seated at the lodge organ, often trying to draw us in from the fringes of musical seblance. He is "Organist Emeritus" of our lodge. We were happy to have hosted him and his family on the occasion of his 90th birthday, just a few years ago. Not long ago, the power went out at the lodge hall, shortly before our meeting was to commence. Bob had one of his grandsons dropping him off (he never missed a meeting), and I approached the car to tell them the power went out, and the meeting was cancelled. All Bob said was, "Now you tell me." I thought that was hilarious. - Posted by: Troy Blair (Lodge brother) on: Apr 29, 2012

Robert Sizeland, I grew up knowing him as “Uncle Rob,” a long-time dear friend to my father Ed McNeil. Uncle Rob was a large influence to me growing up, a man who represented lifelong friendship, loyalty, trust and an unassuming strength. He had such a gentle kind nature about him. Uncle Rob and my father enjoyed their many times together; they had a long history that made them great friends and companions. We always enjoyed their stories when our families would get together. My wife Betty and I extend our deepest sympathies to all the family. Uncle Rob will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him. Sincerely, David and Betty McNeil - Posted by: David McNeil (Youngest Son of Ed McNeil) on: Apr 22, 2012
