JOHN (JACK) WILLIAM CODD It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden death of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Jack Codd, on Thursday, April 19, 2012. Jack is survived by his loving wife Shirley, son Donald (Justina), daughter Heather (Darren), sister and nephew Barbara and Riley, grandchildren Justin, Brianna and Kyler, mother-in-law Connie, brothers-in-law Wayne (Barbara), Earl (Joyce) and Fred (Donna), nieces and nephews and devoted friends whom he cherished. Jack was predeceased by his mother and father, Viola and William, his daughter Kathleen, father-in-law Andrew, father and mother-in-law Stanley and Ellen, and sister-in-law Doreen. Jack was born on May 13, 1946, to Viola and William Codd in Victoria, B.C. At age seven, Jack welcomed the birth of his sister Barbara and instantly a protective and inseparable bond was formed. At age 11, his family moved to Winnipeg, where Jack lived for the remainder of his life. Jack graduated from Kelvin High School and the University of Winnipeg with a BA. During his days at university he worked at Dominion Stores in various positions until he became Store Manager. In 1973, Jack was introduced to the love of his life Shirley, and in months they were engaged and married. With that, Jack gained a new son Donald, who he embraced with great love and enthusiasm. In 1980, Heather was born and completed the Codd family. Jack left his job at Dominion to pursue a sales career at Xerox, Powell Equipment, Ruth Computers, Golden Co, and completed his working career back at Powell Equipment/Toromont. Since Jack's retirement in 2006, his social calendar ballooned! He has always enjoyed get togethers with the dance club, bridge group and his aqua size group. He sat on various committees throughout the years at Kirkfield Park United Church and was always available to help out through fundraising, dinners, and ushering. He was extremely active in the Khartum Skooters, Khartum Shriners, Phoenix Masonic Lodge Jesters where he held positions on committees and on the executive. He organized numerous Shrine activities, fundraisers, Midwest events and Skooter parties. One of his passions was creating and handing out special awards, always dressed in his costumes. His alter egos included Mimi, Santa Claus and the beloved, Jack Rabbit. Jack had a heart of gold and was kind, devoted, considerate, caring and larger than life. He always had a big grin on his face and was forever telling jokes to liven up the party, even when they had been heard many times before. He loved his cottage at Malachi Ontario, where he had developed lifelong friendships. His devotion to his wife and family was endless and he especially loved his grandchildren. Two of his favourite things were shopping and going out for lunch with his sister Barbara. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic staff and Winnipeg Police Service for their care and compassion. A celebration of Jack's life and Masonic service (no regalia) will be held on Wednesday, April 25 at 1:00 p.m. at Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Drive. Private interment will follow at a later date. To continue Jack's passion for fundraising for the care of Shrine children, memorial donations can be made to Khartum Shrine Centre, 1155 Wilkes Ave., Winnipeg, R3P 1B9. Steve and I will never forget the day we flew into Winnipeg to discover our van completely buried in snow. It was parked just outside Jack and Shirley's house. Jack was appalled that we wouldn’t sleep over and insisted we drink a pot of coffee and eat treats before we started our adventure home to Falcon Lk. He made us feel very welcome when Winnipeg was our home - like we were part of the family. He was a lovely man. Hugs to all of you. Take care of each other. - Posted by: Steve and Jen, Millie and Ruby (Friend) on: Apr 23, 2012

Jack was a neighbour at our lake along with Shirley. My wife and I enjoyed his company. He was particularly appreciative of the music of Rockers United (a church band that sometimes goes secular) and of my trumpet playing of a few hymns on Sunday morning. I ended my playing with Amazing Grace because that's the way he wanted it. - Posted by: Ray (Friend) on: Apr 21, 2012
