Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOROTHY JOYCE PETERSON (HYGAARD) March 22, 1930 - April 20, 2012 It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Joyce, who passed peacefully on Friday, April 20, 2012, at Concordia Hospital. Born in rural Clandaboye, Manitoba, Joyce was a natural horsewoman, riding English, Western and dressage. Any horse she mounted came to full attention and her brother Grant valued her keen eye at auctions. After attending business college in Winnipeg, Joyce adapted to city life and epitomized the successful young working woman of the 1950s. She was eager to explore new places and fell in love with B.C. while honeymooning there in 1963. Moving to the West Coast soon after, it was in Vancouver that Joyce and Bill started their family. Joyce loved children. She would light up whenever they were around. She was a wonderful mother and widowed in her early 50's, she continued to raise her brood of four teenagers alone. She understood the importance of keeping her family active and filled their free time with team sports and regular visits to their Uncle Grant's farm in Langley. She was always there for her kids, as a sports coach, life coach and provider of unconditional love. Joyce saw the good in everyone. Her kind, respectful manner and inner strength made her easy to like. Her gentle exterior could be misleading though, she was a feisty lady! Joyce was predeceased by her husband Bill (1983), her second husband Barney (2002), her parents Susan and Grant, brothers Howard, Grant, Jack, Gerald, Desmond and sister Maureen. Here to cherish her memory are her twin sister Kathy (Les), her children Deidre (Eric), Chris (Jude), Duncan (Stella) and Blake, her grandchildren Jonathan, Adrienne, and Kyle. Special thanks to the staff of Concordia Hospital for their excellent support, and to her daughter Deidre for opening her home to Joyce and giving her the best possible loving care for the last seven and a half years of her life. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 26 at 2:00 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Hwy. Internment to follow at a later date, in Fort Langley B.C. Arrangements entrusted to: KLASSEN FUNERAL HOME 1897 Henderson Hwy. 338-0331 Send expressions of sympathy at www.klassenfuneralhome.com
