FLORENCE MACDONALD PEEL 1915 - 2012 Florence Peel passed away quietly on the evening of Saturday, April 21, 2012. Her family, all of whom meant so much to her, were with her as her long life came to a peaceful end. Florence is survived by her loving children and grandchildren: Ellen Peel and Neil Bruneau, Brian Peel and Christopher Beck, Robert Bruneau and Catherine Bruneau. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, all of whom had a special place in her heart. Florence was the daughter of Donald MacDonald and Mary Ellen Murray, pioneer homesteaders in the Gull Lake district of southwestern Saskatchewan. In 1940, she married Morley Peel with whom she shared 50 years of supremely happy married life, first in Saskatoon and after 1961, in Winnipeg. Following the early death of her parents, and before marrying and starting a family of her own, Florence raised her youngest brother, Ramsay MacDonald, first by herself and then with Morley's committed support. She always believed that their shared contribution to her brother's life, undertaken at such a young age, was one of their greatest achievements together. Florence and Morley also played an important role in raising their grandchildren, an experience they both cherished. Florence was an endlessly devoted wife, mother and grandmother, a much-loved friend and a deeply faithful Christian. She took a life-long pride in her Scots heritage and in her native province of Saskatchewan. Florence was predeceased by her beloved husband in 1990, as well as by her dear parents and all of her siblingsfour brothers and four sisters. A family service will be held at a later date and her ashes will be interred with Morley's in the family plot at Thomson in The Park. Florence lived her life with quiet dignity and her family wishes to thank the staff of Lion's Manor and Tuxedo Villa for helping to uphold that dignity in her later years. Friends wishing to do so can make a contribution in memory of Florence to the St. Andrew's Foundation c/o St. Andrew's River Heights United Church, 255 Oak Street. Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3M 3P7. Surely Goodness and Mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
