Date of Passing: Apr 26, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELMER LUTZ December 26, 1938 - April 26, 2012 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Husband, Father, Papa and Brother and Uncle at the Lakeshore General Hospital in Ashern, MB on April 26, 2012. Elmer will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife and best friend of 52 years, Sharon; daughter Pam (Randy), grandchildren Jen, Regan (Maddi), Kari-leigh; son Brad (Kim) and grandson Jon; brother Harold (Irma); nephews Darren, Vince; niece Kim (Darrell) and their mother Marlene; great-nephews Haldon, Carter, Colemen and great-niece Devon; brother-in-law Jim Gudmundson; nephews Kirby (Patricia) and Micheal as well as his very close and dear friend Dave. He will also be missed by his many uncles, aunts and cousins. He was predeceased by his Mom in 1990, his Dad in 1987 along with many uncles, aunts, and cousins. Elmer was born in Winnipeg and lived on the family farm in the Pioneer District until he met the love of his life Sharon. They married in 1959 and lived in Winnipeg until 1962 when they returned to the Pioneer area to farm. Some of Elmer's greatest times were out playing baseball with the Wildcats, coaching the Farmerette ball team (while attempting to keep them in control), going to the beach and trapping squirrels with his brother Harold. Elmer and Sharon loved to go check their steers and thoroughly enjoyed round up time in the fall. Elmer could always be seen wildly ripping around the pasture with a loud vocabulary. Elmer was very community minded. He spent many years involved with the Ashern Horse Club, the Ashern Rodeo and was a member of the Ashern Elks Lodge and Ashern Legion for countless years. Elmer was also on the board for the Ashern Arena Board. He volunteered many hours helping to build the Centennial Hall and the new Ashern Auction Mart. He worked at the Ashern Stock Yard for 20 years, was on their Board of Directors and took bids at the Lundar Bull sale which was an annual event for him. For many years, Elmer was involved in the Ashern Sharptail One Box Hunt as a judge. Elmer would always stop what he was doing if someone needed a helping hand. In 1996 Elmer was faced with one of his greatest challenges, cancer. After recovering, they decided to sell the farm, retire and move to Ashern in 2000. Elmer filled his retirement with countless days of fishing, daily golf outings with his buddies, camping and traveling with Sharon. Elmer absolutely loved his house in town. He took great pride in his grandchildren and their accomplishments. Dad, Papa will be forever loved, forever dear, within our hearts and forever near. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 29, 2012 at the Colcough Cemetery with Pastor Bill Watson officiating. Lunch will follow the service at the Ashern Centennial Hall. Our family wishes to extend sincere thanks to Dr. Faltas, the nurses and staff of the Lakeshore General Hospital, Helen Webster and the Home Care staff and our many family members and friends who have supported us. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Lakeshore Hospital Guild, c/o Julie Bergner, P.O. Box 721, Ashern, MB R0C 0E0 or to the Northwest District - Highway 6 Palliative Care, P.O. Thanks for being there for me always. You were a true brother, Elmer! Here is a poem written by Ron Hoffman, Vermillion, AB dedicated to you: _ORDER BUYER'S NIGHTMARE There was an old order buyer, about thirty-three He'd just settled down to catch up on his sleep He started to sigh, then to toss and to turn. The embers of his memory had started to burn. The dream started pleasant, the market was steady, The barley was combined, the feedlots were ready The steers came off pasture in just the right flesh, The orders were fillin' & the cattle were fresh Then the dream clouded over, Images started to whirl, The buyer screamed out & his hair lost its curl. In his mind he replayed every bad deal & loss, Uncovering memories grown over with moss. The scene is a bar, the atmosphere warm. A feeder recalls the cattle sent to his farm The order buyer smiled and swelled up with pride Till the old fellow told him, "Well, half of them died! Now the buyers in his office, his ear to the phone, The conversation progresses,& he starts to moan The voice on the phone says "Now don't get upset Sure, I want the cattle. I just can't pay for them yet." And then there's the time he bought heifers on spec. Guaranteed open, so he wrote the cheque. The fat market dropped, he couldn't turn them about, He spent February & March just pullin' calves out. The order buyer woke up, half drowned in his sweat. But his constitution is tough & he ain't done yet. He's learned how to keep his sanity & wealth. Just charge that commission & don't buy for yourself! - Posted by: Marliene Lutz (sister-in-law) on: Apr 29, 2012

In my early years I was welcomed in by the Lutz family & treated like one of the family. Elmer was like the older brother I didn't have. He was alway's giving Harold & myself big brother talks. Over the years after we married our lives parted but our past was never forgotten . Until We Meet Again. - Posted by: Ralph Sinclair (Good Friend) on: Apr 28, 2012
