Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDWIN VERNON NICHOLS January 1919 - April 2012 With sadness, we announce the passing of our father Edwin Vernon Nichols at Seven Oaks General Hospital, on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at the age of 93 years. Dad was predeceased by our mother Gladys in 1978; brothers Bob (Muriel, deceased), Walter, Allen and Reg (Pauline); and brothers-in-law Jack Gunn and Eric Smith. Ed will be remembered by his children Jo-Anne and Bob; sister Lillian Gunn; brother John (Eileen) and sister-in-law Pauline Nichols as well as 11 nieces and nephews and their families. Our father was a Veteran of the Second World War, serving overseas in the Canadian Army for five years. He was employed by Canada Bread for over 40 years starting his career before the war at the age of 16 and continuing it when he returned until retirement at age 63. Following retirement, Dad became a snowbird who thoroughly enjoyed the warm weather and golfing in Tucson, AZ for many years. He lived a long, full life slowing down only a little over his last few months. Family and friends are invited to meet at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street at 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 for a brief Graveside Service at 2:00 p.m., the Rev. Ted Nimik, Padre, Branch 215, Royal Canadian Legion, presiding. A Celebration of Ed's life will be held following the service at the Glen Eden Reception Centre. Ed's son and daughter would like to thank Veterans Affairs Canada Independent Program for making it possible for Dad to live in his own home to the end as he so strongly desired, the staff on the fifth floor at Seven Oaks General Hospital for their compassionate care during his brief stay there, and to our cousin Lynn for her many, many years of actively caring for our Dad. In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, donations in Dad's memory may be made to a charity of your choice. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111 www.gleneden-mb.ca
