GODFREY OSCAR TAILLIEU Godfrey passed away peacefully on Friday, April 27, 2012, at the Grace Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 11 years June (Nerbas), and predeceased by his wife Alice (Turenne) in 1993, and his wife Rita (Caron) in 1975. He is also survived by his brother Marcel and sister Mary. Born on February 27, 1928, to Edmond and Maria Taillieu, Godfrey lived his whole life in Charleswood. He grew up with his two brothers and seven sisters on the family farm where he and Rita lived until 1974. He went on to work in carpentry and construction including numerous projects for his extended family. His charm and sincere interest in people rewarded him with countless friendships throughout his life. Godfrey had a special fondness for his many nephews, nieces and in-laws. His warmth and humility endeared him to young and old, friends and strangers. Darb enjoyed the simple pleasures in life and could always be counted on for a good time. Family life provided Godfrey's greatest joy. He was always proud of his children and grandchildren, supporting and encouraging each one in their unique interests. Godfrey overcame loss with the love and tireless support of others to help raise his children. The family extends sincere thanks to all those who were a special part of his life. He appreciated each and every one of you. Godfrey left this world with dignity and faith that he will meet you again. Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • Godfrey (Darb) as we used to call him had an excellent sense of humour and a smile that's hard to forget...he loved to visit for a coffee and chat about any subject of a serious or trivial nature and sometimes laugh until he cried. We used to spend many evenings with he and Rita playing cards followed by a delicious lunch and pleasant conversation. He came from a large and wonderful family who made everyone feel very welcome. I will always fondly remember even if he did love the Montreal Canadiens! God bless him anyway! - Posted by: Wally Armstrong (Friend) on: May 03, 2012

  • Uncle Godfrey was one of those special people you were always happy to see. His face always ready to light up when he saw you, and that disarming, charming smile always so welcoming. He was a great friend to my dad, and their coffee outings were an established tradition, right to the end. Indeed, dad was eager to let us all know that he'd picked up Godfrey and they went to Tim's. Uncle Godfrey had a remarkable sense of humor, and his timing was impeccable. He was the target of many a joke, but he always had a quick response---and more remarkably, a good-natured acceptance of his role. Everyone liked him, and I for one was always on his side. I suspect most of us were. I had planned to be at the funeral, but it didn't work out. I was thinking of all of his children this morning--his four sons, and his daughter Karen, who was such a loving support these last years. God Bless you, Uncle Godfrey....you will be missed. - Posted by: Claudette Caron (niece) on: May 03, 2012

  • Being born without a father, there were a few men in my life who took it upon themselves to help me along life's path and teach me important values. These men were my grandfather and my three uncles. Uncle Darb in particular was a major influence in my life. Knowing how much I loved being on the farm, he would pick me up on Saturday mornings and he and Aunt Rita would generously allow me to spend weekends with them and their growing family. Their home became my second home. And during my formative teenage years, I always looked forward to spending summers and Christmas and Easter vacations on the farm. During those years that I worked for and with Uncle Darb, I could ask him questions about anything and everything. No subject was taboo. His responses were always informative and his guidance thoughtfully given. And so I thank God for Uncle Darb being part of my life and for being a father figure to me. Rest in God's peace, Uncle Darb. - Posted by: Garry Barnes (Nephew) on: May 01, 2012

  • Godfrey (Uncle Darb) was more like a father to me than an uncle; my own Dad passed away when I was two so Uncle Darb became my surrogate Dad in too many ways to mention. He had a heart of gold and I will truly miss him in my life. - Posted by: Carole Armstrong (Niece) on: May 01, 2012

  • Godfrey was always very caring and had a good sense of humour. We will all miss this very friendly neighbour & friend for coffee. In the summer he enjoyed receiving my tomatoes, I had many to share with the group. - Posted by: Roger Hardy (fellow McDonalds coffee club member) on: Apr 30, 2012
