BETTY DUNN Unexpectedly on Monday, April 30, 2012, Betty Dunn passed away at her home at the age of 97. She will be lovingly remembered by her three remaining sons: Blake (Barb), Garnet (Pam) and Travis (Rose); grandchildren: Karen (Ray), Jacqueline (Ian), Gary, Serena, and Damon (Chrissy); great-grandchildren: Ryan and Peyton, also special friends Brenda and Karl Berger. She was predeceased by her husband Austin in 1979 after 40 years of marriage, her eldest son Gary Walter Thomas in 1985, and elder sister Margaret Wolff in 2010. Betty was born on February 17, 1915 in Regina, Saskatchewan to Florence and Robert Platte. They moved to Winnipeg, and subsequently she moved to Carman with her mother and sister, later farming and attending school in the Graysville area. She excelled in basketball and singing, beginning a love of music she held her entire life. Betty met her husband, Austin, when he was driving the school wagon, and they married on October 15, 1938. They moved to Talbot Avenue in Winnipeg until 1951 when they moved to Transcona. It was primarily here they raised their four sons, and she perfected her recipes, including homemade cookies and chocolate cake from scratch. In 1998, she moved to Transcona Place, and finally to Thorvaldson Care Centre, however, Betty was always a Transcona girl at heart. She was a long-time member of Transcona Memorial United Church, singing in the choir for 50 years and was president of U.C.W. Her participation in musical productions was a great joy to her and she shared her love of singing at countless weddings and celebrations. Betty's family and wide circle of friends will always remember how she enjoyed life with a sense of humour. She was known for her perfectly-styled hair, and her fashion sense. She loved her time spent at the cottage in Ottermere, Ontario. Her grandchildren will cherish her beautiful handmade quilts and afghans. She will be deeply missed by many. The family would like to thank the staff of Thorvaldson and the Winnipeg paramedics for their care. There will be a celebration of Betty's life on Saturday, May 5, 2012, at 11:15 a.m., at Transcona Memorial United Church, 209 Yale Ave. West, with interment at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined, if desired, donations in Betty's name may be made to Transcona Memorial United Church or a charity of one's choice.

Childhood memories of my friend Gary's Mom continued for 65 years with visits to Betty with my own family. We remember her warmth and hospitality as she would always make tea, along with delicious baking served on her fine china! Treasure the memories! - Posted by: Jack and Linda Bernhardt () on: May 05, 2012

Doug and I met Betty through Doug's sister and brother in law (Brenda and Carl Berger). Every visit with the Bergers included a visit with Betty. The visit was not complete without picking up Betty for church, hearing them sing in the choir and then going out for lunch afterwards. Betty was a true Lady. She was immaculately dressed, always poised and what a sense of humor. Thanks for including us in your lives. Our condolences to the family. - Posted by: Judy and Doug Wendorf () on: May 04, 2012

Betty was a very special lady. She had a smile that was contagious! She welcomed my Mom just recently into the care facility that Mom had just moved into. She had words of wisdom that I will not forget the first time I met her in the hallway when we were unpacking Mom's things. She had such a positive outlook! - Posted by: Carol () on: May 02, 2012
