I was extremely happy to see Aunty Julie a couple months ago at my Gramma Josie's funeral. Although, not the most pleasant of situations to be meeting under I was so glad to have spent that afternoon with her. As always, she greeted me with a big smile and a hug and a soft "Kimmy" that would melt my heart. We shared stories, laughter and tears. We reminisced over silly stories that we were both a part of in the last almost 35 years. She brought out pictures of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and said how they were the highlight of her life. Some of my fondest memories of Aunty Julie go back almost 25 years. My younger sister and I often had weekend sleepovers at my Gramma's place on Bannerman Avenue. The Saturday night card game would rotate between the ladies' houses (Julie, Olga K, Olga M, Edna, Genya, Francis, Ollie D, Josie) and I LOVED it when my Gramma hosted it cause that meant my sister and I would get to stay up late with the ladies and they'd teach us how to play cards. We'd serve snacks and drinks all night long and Aunty Julie always slipped us a quarter :) We spent a lot of time at my Gramma's and visits with her girlfriends were frequent which is why we affectionately called them Aunty. Back in my twenties before my husband and kids came along, I would often tag along to Friday night Bingo at the hall or to the casino with the ladies. They weren't "old" by any stretch. They were young at heart, full of jokes, laughter and most importantly a kinship among women that most of us could only dream of. She was a very special lady and I will miss her. I am so very sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Kimberly Stott (nee Lusky) (Aunty Julie's long time friend, Josie Elendiuk's, granddaughter.) on: May 06, 2012
