ELISABETH MALBASA
Date of Passing: May 04, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELISABETH MALBASA November 18, 1920 - May 4, 2012 Elli's life journey was picturesque, as illustrated on the pages of the photo albums she so fastidiously kept. Her photo album is now complete. Growing up as the only girl with four brothers during the war, Elli became very resilient and developed a truly adventurous spirit. Leaving home at 19 to live with her aunt and uncle in her beloved Graz, Austria only heightened her spirited independence. In her 91 years, she's filled her Book of Life with endless pictures, most of them happy, some of them sad, but all of them important. There are pages from her childhood in Austria, where her adventurous and fun-loving spirit was already apparent. There are sad pages of her family's struggles throughout the war and after, where her resourcefulness and strength frame each snapshot. Then there's a huge section for Bernard, her love, who she met when he came into the photo studio where she worked. After living in Brazil and Germany they moved to Canada in 1967, where they settled in North Kildonan and eventually built their dream house on Knowles Avenue. Bernard predeceased Elli in 1997. With her indomitable spirit she carried on, expanding her photo album with new-found friends. Her greatest delight is seen in the pictures where she is surrounded by her family, her sons Bruno and John and their wives Mary and Patti, her grandchildren Marcus (Natalia), Aron (Amanda), Kelly and Monica, and her great-grandchildren Kryn, Dominic and Liam. The table always overflowed with her delicious cooking, nieces and nephews filled the house, and her love for all of us was evident on each picture and page. The pages of pictures of Elli's friends would almost need a book of their own. She loved people and she loved to have fun, as is evident by the number of close friendships she developed throughout the years. Almost anyone who knew her counted her as a friend, and she had a way of letting people know they were special to her. Elli finished her album on Friday, May 4, 2012 unexpectedly and peacefully. She'll work on Book 2 with Papa, as they watch over us. A celebration of Elli's life will be held on Friday, May 11 at 2:00 in the afternoon at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a memorial donation in Elli's name to CancerCare Manitoba, the Children's Make a Wish Foundation, or the charity of your choice.
