KURT KOLBE On May 4, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer, Kurt Kolbe, beloved husband of Edelgard, passed away at the age of 78. Kurt is survived by his wife of 55 years, Edelgard, his son Ron (Leanne), daughter Karen (Slavo), grandchildren Kristy (Brian), Kurt, Markus, and Steven and great-grandson Alex. Kurt was born in Berlin, Germany and immigrated to Winnipeg in 1955. He was a bricklayer by trade and worked in the construction industry until his retirement 3 years ago. Kurt was a longtime member of the German Society of Winnipeg. He spent much of his free time with the bowling, curling, Germania soccer and Treue Husar carnival clubs. He was Hausvater for one term and let's not forget the stammtisch . Kurt and Edelgard spent many summers at Camp Neustadt until moving to their cottage in Heideland. In 1998 the cottage became their primary residence. Kurt was also a snowbird; he spent the last 15 winters at their mobile home in La Feria, Texas. Kurt was an active member of the St. John Lodge and the Interlake Shriner's Club. Down south, Kurt's greatest pleasure was taking crippled children to their appointments at the Shriner's Hospital in Houston. The family would like to thank Dr. Sunil Patel and all the staff at the Gimli Hospital. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Kurt's life will take place on Monday, May 14, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street. Interment and reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Kurt's name to the Camp Neustadt Campers Association care of Assiniboine Credit Union, 694 St. James Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3G 3J7.
