SHEILA HELEN BEILMAN (nee GRAY) It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Sheila Beilman on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, at the Grace Hospital at the age of 83 years. Remaining to forever cherish Mom's memory are her children John (Joanne) and Mary-Ann (Larry) Updike; grandchildren Gordon, Danielle, and Michael; numerous nieces and nephews; a loving circle of friends; and her beloved cat, Honey. She was predeceased by her adoring husband, Jack; and parents John and Elspeth Gray. Mom devoted her life to caring for her family and contributing to the community. A skilled seamstress and avid knitter, she was able to stretch the family budget to ensure her children were always fashionably dressed and warm. She took great pride in designing and sewing Mary-Ann's wedding dress and continued knitting into her seventies. Mom was a faithful school volunteer, organizing many bake sales and spring teas, a Girl Guide leader for over 15 years, and a lifetime member of St. Edward's Catholic Women's League. She remained young at heart cultivating friendships with younger people and learning how to use a computer in recent years. Both provided her with many hours of enjoyment and companionship. On Friday, May 11, 2012 Sheila's Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Memories in Wojcik's Funeral Chapel, 1020 Main Street at Manitoba Avenue. Interment will follow in Assumption Roman Catholic Cemetery, 3990 Portage Avenue. Our family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to her wonderful neighbours who enabled Mom to live on her own and to the staff of 3 South at Grace Hospital who provided compassionate care during her final days. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sheila's memory may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3, the Heart and Stroke Association, 200 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6 or a charity of your choice.

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • Sheila and Sandy were my neighbours at one time 6 or so years ago. We moved away from the neighbourhood, but Sheila and I remained friends and every year I received a Christmas and birthday card from her and Sandy and then Sheila and Honey. I was blessed to have Sheila in my life and recall many good times on her front step with the other neighbours. I am beyond grateful that I was able to share some time with Sheila before she left this earth to be with the others who were on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge waiting for her arrival. Condolences to the families and to those who will mourn her loss. - Posted by: Paula Benson () on: May 10, 2012

  • My condolences to the family. I have many fond memories of Sheila from when she was my Girl Guide instructor many many years ago. I have always remembered what a kind person she was and hold very fond memories of those days in Girl Guides. Her warm smile and kindness is part of the person she was and she projected that to everyone that came into her life. - Posted by: Diana Saunders (Past Girl Guide) on: May 10, 2012
