SUSAN JOY MITCHELL April 27, 1946 - May 10, 2012 Joy lived her life with spirit and grace, even throughout her battle with cancer, until she passed away peacefully at the St. Boniface Hospital having just celebrated her 66th birthday. Joy brought out the best in everyone because she refused to see anything but good in people. She will be lovingly remembered by her close friend Rick Caton and his family, her son Brian Larson with wife Juanita and their children Leanna, Kylie and Kurt, her sister Brenda Therrien (Mike), sister-in-law Susan Mitchell, her niece and nephews Shayla Murphy (Riley), Sheldon Therrien, Derek, Scott and Jordan Mitchell. She was predeceased by her parents Bruce and Brenda Mitchell, and her brother Matt. Joy worked as a cashier at Safeway for over 30 years before retiring in 2009. Her customers will always remember her as friendly and helpful. She made sure no one missed a bargain and if you came with your own cart, she was happy to make sure it was packed just right. There were numerous winter vacations she enjoyed over the years, either with her friend Lucy or with Rick. Joy made many friends on these trips and left a lasting impression on anyone who got to know her. Joy remembered everyone's birthday and became a cool Grandma as she reunited with her son and spent time with her new family. Special thanks to everyone who took such good care of Joy at CancerCare and on the Palliative Care ward in St. Boniface Hospital. Service will be held at Chapel Lawn, 4000 Portage Ave. at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 with viewing half an hour prior to service. Donations may be made in Joy's memory to CancerCare Manitoba. Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.mb.ca 885-9715

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Joy, or Auntie Joy as we would call her, made a tremendous impact on my life since I was a young child. She was my mom's best friend when we lived in Winnipeg and she was always there for us as my mom raised four children as a single mom. I have so many fond memories of Joy throughout the years and I feel very blessed to have known her. I will always remember her caring and generous nature! Rest in peace Auntie Joy! My deepest sympathy to her family! - Posted by: Belinda Jayson () on: May 21, 2012

  • Joy shared a room at the palliative care ward at St. Boniface Hospital with my Mother Lucette Loiselle. While I didn't have the opportunity to get to know Joy it was clear from the love and support that she was receiving from friends and family that she was a special lady. Sadly Joy passed away the day after my Mother. My deepest hope is that they have both found peace and freedom from pain. My sincerest respects to Joy's family as well as Rick Caton and family who were always by her side. God Bless! - Posted by: Ginette Volpato () on: May 15, 2012
