BERYL ELEANOR LARSSON (nee HIBNER) 1927- 2012 Surrounded by her family, our dear Mother and Nana, Beryl Larsson, passed away peacefully at the Grace Hospital on Friday, May 11, 2012. Beryl lived a full and wonderful 84 years and was predeceased by her loving husband, Peter Larsson. Left to forever cherish Beryl's memory is her son Walle (Jo-Ann) and daughter Kimberley (Richard), her grandchildren; Erik, Zion, Jonathan (Leah), Karley (Cale), Bobbi-Rae, Randi-Lyn, and Erika. The only daughter of Sam and Elsie Hibner, Beryl was born on December 11, 1927, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She loved growing up on Polson Avenue in the North End, she attended St. John's High School and was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, where she made many special lifelong friends. After taking a course in business, Beryl was employed by Traders Finance and the C.N.R., where her father also worked as a chef. On December 6, 1947, she married the love of her life, Peter Larsson, after meeting at the Swedish Cultural Centre in Winnipeg. Their early years were spent operating a mink ranch in Charleswood and they later moved to River Heights at which time Peter joined the Fire Department and Beryl was able to stay at home and raise their family. Beryl was an incredible wife, mother, and hostess. She will always be remembered for her joyful spirit, warm smile, and sense of humor. She spread kindness to everyone she knew, constantly caring for friends, family, and those in need. Some of her most special times were spent at the lake, in Lac du Bonnet, engaging in activities like water skiing and cross-country skiing with her beloved Peter, or doing what she loved most, entertaining family and friends. She also treasured all of the fun times and wonderful friendships that she made through her involvement in curling and bridge over her many years. Beryl cherished the memories of her special trips made with Peter as they globe-trotted to Spain, Hawaii, Mexico, and Norway and in her latter years, they enjoyed winters as snow-birds in Mesa, Arizona with dear friends from the Winnipeg Fire Department. She was the best Nana to her grandchildren, giving them each lifelong memories to treasure of their special times with her. They will miss her warm hugs, bed snacks, Christmas Eve parties and proud support of everything they did. Beryl's final days were spent under the excellent care of Dr. John Borrett and the compassionate nursing team and staff on 5 North at the Grace Hospital. The family wishes to acknowledge with gratitude all of the kind visits from Beryl's dear friends, especially Marge Rock. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Firefighter's Burn Fund, 303-83 Garry Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3C 4J9. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2012, at Westworth United Church, 1750 Grosvenor Avenue. Chapel Lawn www.chapellawn.mb.ca 885-9715

Condolences & Memories (9 entries)

  • Kim and Walle, David and I were saddened to hear of your mom's passing. I remember the times at the lake when your dad would take us all water skiing and we spent many days at your parents place. Your dad was very special to me and I asked him to give the toast to the bride when I was married and he did an awesome job. Days at the lake were memorable and your parents were the best. Remember them and talk about all the great times. June Hagglund Weind - Posted by: June and David Weind (friends from Lac Du Bonnet) on: Jul 11, 2012

  • So sorry to hear of your Mom's passing. I will always remember her with her beautiful long legs in her bathing suit sitting on the dock. Her wonderful smile & warm greetings and of course your Dad who taught us all to water ski. I still remember the day he skied with the long red dress & straw hat. She will be missed by all. You are so lucky to have had her with you for such a long time. - Posted by: Jo-Anne & Ron Kullman (Temple) (Neighbours from the lake) on: May 18, 2012

  • As a high school and life-long friend of Walle's it was with regret and sadness that I learned of the passing of his mother, Mrs. Larsson. The red brick house on (655?) Academy Road was always so warm and welcoming. As a teenager I considered Walle and his sister Kim to be extremely lucky have such great parents. Fine people such as Mrs. Larsson are always greatly missed when they go and she will certainly be no exception. - Posted by: Neil Luckhurst (Friend) on: May 15, 2012

  • To visit or be visited by the Larssons was always a treat. I suspect that it didn't really matter whether you were family or friend, you were always embraced and gathered into the warmth of the Larsson way. At the lake there were always dozens of people dropping by and Beryl and Peter were gracious and pleased to see all of them. It was easy to see that they loved life and accepted whatever came their way. Quick to smile and always ready to offer a genuine compliment is how I will remember Beryl. I am sure you, Walle and Kim, and your families will miss her greatly, as you have missed Peter, but together they have left a legacy of magical memories for you to hold dear. Our sincere condolences to all of you. Carolynn & Stephen Dow & family. - Posted by: Carolynn Dow (nee Hibner) (Cousin) on: May 14, 2012
