IRENE (RENE) MAY FISHER May 4, 1921 - May 9, 2012 It is with sadness the family of Rene Fisher announces her death on May 9, 2012. Rene lived in St. Albert, AB since 1999. Mom taught us many lessons in dignity and the human spirit during those years. She was born and lived most of her life in Winnipeg, MB. She leaves to mourn her daughters Joan Monson (Wally) and Shirley Fisher (Mark). Mom will be forever remembered by her beloved grandchildren, Krista (Paul), Karen (Jack), Paul (Susan), Matthew, and Drew. Gigi also leaves her darling great-grandchildren Jaden and Zane, Alexa and Charlie, Elizabeth and Sarah. Rene is also survived by her dear sister, Dora Humphreys as well as many nephews and nieces. Rene always showed great pride and interest in life and in particular connections with family. She loved playing, in true spirit, with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Rene was predeceased by her much-loved husband Ian, in 1977. After Ian's passing, Rene spent many wonderful years enjoying life with her special friend, Steve. Rene touched many people and her spirit will remain with us forever. Our family would like to thank all of those who helped our mother in her final years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Make A Wish foundation, www.makeawish.ca Family and friends are invited to celebrate Rene's life at a service on Friday, May 18, 2012 at 2:00 p.m., at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB. This will be her final resting place. www.chapelawn.mb.ca

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I have so many wonderful memories of my Auntie Rene. Our visits to Winnipeg allowed Rene to re-unite with her sisters Dora and Connie. The three of them had such fun. It was a joy just to watch. Rene was always so friendly, she was easy to be around. While she had fun and enjoyed life, there was also a sense of serenity about her. Generous, with a wonderful sense of humour that remained with her throughout her life, I will miss her. - Posted by: Doug Conway (Nephew) on: May 20, 2012

  • I met ‘Reenie’ as a passer-by and neighbour in the Riverview area of Winnipeg. I think we really clicked because she reminded me of my Mom: instantly friendly, outgoing, always smiling and a great sense of humour. A person like that--everyone should want to be. - Posted by: Alan Skrepnek (neighbour/aquaintance) on: May 16, 2012

  • I had the pleasure of sharing the front office at Ashland School with Rene. It was there that she and Steve first met. As school secretary Rene truly was "the mother of the school". Her generosity of spirit and sense of humour made her a gift in my life. - Posted by: Carole Wylie (Basarab) (colleague) on: May 14, 2012
