JOHN H. PETERS Peacefully and with dignity, John passed away in the arms of family, on May 10, 2012, at the age of 92 years, while in the Victoria General Hospital, after a brief battle with Lymphoma. John thanks everyone who shared Life with him and sends you his love. John has taken with him many treasured memories of all of you. The beauty of a life well lived never dies... it continues to embrace and inspire us. John was born near Gretna, Manitoba on November 16, 1919. After his education in Gretna, he began employment at Canadian Pacific Railway from which he retired as a locomotive engineer in 1979. He married Elisabeth Kliewer of Niverville on October 11, 1942 and together they celebrated 62 anniversaries. They were faithful members of St. James Presbyterian Church. John was predeceased by his beloved wife (Betty, as she was known) on January 23, 2005; also his parents, five brothers, and two sisters in preceding years. He is survived by two brothers, Nick of Olds, Alberta; Ed of Pincher Creek, Alberta; one sister, Susan Janzen of Winnipeg; one sister-in-law, Gertie Peters of Sedgewick, Alberta, and many nieces, nephews and friends. He will be greatly missed by special friend, Mena Robertson, as well as his many other friends at Sterling House. John received excellent, professional medical care while in the Victoria General Hospital. Thank you to Dr. Ian Maxwell and all the physicians, nurses and supportive staff in the emergency and 4S ward that were involved in John's care. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at 2:00 p.m., at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army Booth Centre.
