RACHEL VERMEIRE (nee BEERNAERTS) Peacefully at the Notre Dame Foyer on Tuesday, May 15, 2012, Mrs. Rachel Vermeire (nee Beernaerts) passed away at the age of 85. She leaves to mourn her husband of 59 years, Marcel Vermeire, her three boys; Terry (Evelyne), Rick (Karen) and Grant (Simone); six grandchildren Janene, Scott (Diane), Jodie (Brett), Amanda (Lavone), Lianne and Melanie and one great-grandchild, Nolan. Rachel is survived by her brothers, Leo (Margaret) and Remi (Nancy), in-laws Clara DeJaegher, Leo Hutlet, Isabelle Verdonck and Lorraine (Roland) Charbonneau. She was predeceased by her parents Rene and Bertha (nee VanDeKerchove) Beernaerts, her grandson Steven Vermeire, her in-laws Enid Beernaerts (Poteau), Aime DeJaegher, Julia Hutlet (Vermeire) and George Verdonck. Rachel was born in Swan Lake Manitoba on May 2, 1927and spent her childhood years on the family farm. She married Marcel Vermeire in 1952 and together they raised three boys and tended to the farm. Rachel was active in her community by working at hospital and church fundraisers. She also gave time to help at curling events. Rachel was very family oriented. She would drop whatever she was doing to help her family. Her children and grandchildren were of utmost importance to her. Her grandchildren loved visiting grandma on the farm. Upon retirement from farm work Rachel and Marcel moved to Swan Lake where they spent many years together. Rachel spent the last three years of her life at the Notre Dame Foyer. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of the Swan Lake Hospital and of Notre Dame Manitoba. A heartfelt and special thank you as well to all the caregivers in the Notre Dame Foyer for the excellent care and support they provided the family through the years. Mass of Christian Burial will be held from the St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, Swan Lake, Manitoba on Saturday, May 19 at 11:00 a.m. Father Francis Eworo celebrant. Prayers at 10:30 am prior to Mass. Interment to follow in the St. Martin of Tours Parish Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rachel's memory to the Lorne Memorial Health Foundation Palliative Care Fund, P.O. Box 40 Swan Lake, Manitoba R0G 2S0, or to the Canadian Diabetes Association (Manitoba), 200-310 Broadway, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3C 0S6.
