STEVE KARPYSHIN
Date of Passing: May 15, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySTEVE KARPYSHIN On May 15, 2012, surrounded by his wife and children, Steve passed away peacefully at the age of 81 at the Riverview Health Centre, following a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Steve was predeceased by his eldest son Richard (Ann), his parents George and Eva, sister Ann and brothers Harry and William. Left to forever cherish Steve's memory are his beloved wife of 60 years, Maxine, daughter Marilyn (Joe), son Stephen (Linda), daughter Sherry (Craig), daughter Liza (Sandy), son Joel (Lisa), daughter Deborah (Shawn), 14 grand-children and one great-grandchild. After growing up on the family farm in Winnipeg, Steve worked for Garson Limestone, overseeing the production and installation of limestone on building projects. Committed to caring for his family, Steve took over the family farm in 1956, running grain and vegetable operations until its auction in 1977. While running the farm, Steve owned and operated Kildonan Trucking and also worked as a lead hand for Allied Farm Equipment / Buhler Industries. Steve continued to farm on a smaller scale after retirement and made regular donations to the Manitoba Harvest food bank. An avid and talented gardener and handyman, Steve was also a great story teller and conversationalist. Largely self taught, he was knowledgeable in many areas and possessed an uncanny technical ability to repair things big or small a survival skill from his farming days that he willingly shared to the benefit of others. His can-do attitude was infectious, often amazing those around him with his ability to get things done through shear effort and will. His inventive and resourceful ways came from a life of self reliance where making do with what you had was the norm. Always content with his life, he was motivated by his sense of family and the value of hard work. His love of the earth and working with his hands was only exceeded by his love and care of family. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he had a genuine interest and pride in the lives and careers of all his children and grandchildren, who would often sit and listen to his stories, learning from his advice. His inspiration and guidance are legacies that will live on in those he touched. His wit, imagination and sense of humor are fond memories we will all share and cherish forever. Memorial service will take place Monday, May 21, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street. Reception will follow. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of the Health Sciences Center and the Riverview Health Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cancer Society. Mr.K… I can’t believe it’s just shy of 10 years since you passed all too soon… you are part of a generation of men that will be missed, and impossible to replace… knowledge, wisdom, and common sense that seems to be lacking these days, you had all in abundance… from time to time.. when I’m faced with a problem.. I say to myself…” what would Mr.K do?”…Shawn - Posted by: Shawn Stawiarski (Son in law) on: Mar 13, 2023

Grandpa, I thought of you the other day planning my wedding, and how I so badly want you to be there. Even though I was a bit of a wild child you never treated me differently from any of the other girls and accepted me for who I was. I already miss your stories and the jokes I never quite got, even though you always found them hilarious. Im sorry I couldn't bring myself to say anything at your funeral, I just couldn't say the words at the time, it was too painful. You were the only grandpa I even knew, and I'm so lucky to have had a person like you in my life. I miss you every day. Christmas this year won't be the same without you, but I promise to have a shot of Brandy for you, and I hope you look down and laugh at my puckered face like you always did. - Posted by: Christine (Granddaughter) on: Sep 07, 2012

Maxine and Family There's so much that should be said at this time but no words seem adequate. We just hope you know you're being thought about and cared about...and hope you find special comfort that Steve is in a good resting place. We have always enjoyed any times we shared and both of you are wonderful people. Diane and Bob - Posted by: Robert and Diane Fraser (Friends) on: May 22, 2012

We weren't blessed to have met Mr. Karpyshin, but we are fortunate to call his daughter Marilyn a friend. We'd like to think that Marilyn's wonderful personality, love of gardening, sense of family and being a true friend in part was inherited from her wonderful father. - Posted by: Manny & April Bruck (friends of family) on: May 19, 2012
