Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNONA MAY FINNBOGASON (nee SMITH) July 26, 1923 - May 23, 2012 Nona May Finnbogason passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on May 23, 2012. Nona is predeceased by her husband W.H. (Bill) Finnbogason in 2006 and by her daughter Andrea Finnbogason in 2007. She will be dearly missed by her children Enid, Lenore (Sieg), Paul (Barb), grandchildren Oryan (Jen), Adam (Misha), Jesse, Suzannah (William), Carmen, David, and great-grandchildren; Aidan, Tucker, Adeline and Isaac. Nona is survived by her brothers Jack, Harry, Stan, David and sisters Muriel and June along with their spouses and many nieces and nephews. Nona was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. In the early years, Nona worked with the Arctic Ice Company and the Family Bureau to support Bill's quest to gain a degree in Mechanical Engineering following the Second World War Nona and Bill supported one another continuously for 64 years of marriage toward a successful long career and committed loving union. Together they developed many great friendships building memories that lasted a lifetime. Mom and Dad thoroughly enjoyed their times in the Whiteshell at Jessica and Brereton lakes and the many years with family and good friends at Gimli in addition to their numerous trips abroad to the UK, Trinidad and Tobago and the Mediterranean; always traveling with good friends and family. Mom had a great sense of humour that could put us in stitches at the most unexpected times. She had a flare for off-the-cuff comedy and always called it like it was. When it came to being a great homemaker, her specialty was simply, The Best Sunday and Holiday roast beef and Yorkshire pudding dinner one could desire, always presented nice and hot and on warmed plates. Everyone, especially her grandchildren looked forward to family dinners at Nana and Alfi's. Nona was also an excellent seamstress working tirelessly over the years on tops, bottoms, and dresses for her three girls, bedroom curtains and even leopard skin car seat covers for the 76 Montcalm (that was unique!). Mom was an accomplished landscape artist and sold commissioned paintings to numerous people and won awards in Winnipeg and Gimli. Nona enjoyed many years of Bridge with a close group of girls from Glenlawn Crescent. Mom was a competitive games player but enjoyed winning the booby prize just as much as she loved the friendship and good times they all had over the years. In the end, Nona was brave and courageous in the face of adversity and illness. Mom never complained about what so many of us do complain about and was genuinely more concerned about others than herself. We will all miss and cherish her memory. Our family expresses our heartfelt gratitude to the hardworking staff and nurses at Vista Park Lodge for their loving care of Nona throughout the past year. Please join us for a celebration of Nona's life at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 28, 2012 at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery). I first met Nona as a young girl at one of the many Smith family reunions. I remember her as genuine, friendly and a very classy lady. My mother Norma always spoke so highly of her cousin Nona, she was such a caring and fun person! My sincerest sympathies to Finnbogason and Smith families. - Posted by: Mavis (McQueen) Taylor (2nd Cousin - youngest daughter of Norma McQueen (née Smith)) on: May 28, 2012

The one thing I remember most about her is her incredible patience. The house was always full of kids and she was always so calm and loving. I will forever remember the trip to the west coast by car in the mid 60's - all the kids had a friend and I was Enid's. My life has continually been connected by the Finnbogason family and now our mothers have passed one week a part. Much love, Pat - Posted by: Pat Watts Stevens (family friend) on: May 26, 2012
