SUSAN WIESER (KROEKER)
Date of Passing: May 25, 2012
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySUSAN WIESER (nee KROEKER) With deep sadness we announce the passing of our loving wife, mother and grandmother, aged 85, who died peacefully at home on Friday, May 25, 2012. Susan is predeceased by her brother George. She is survived by her devoted husband, Rudolf, sisters Mary and Johanna, sons Robert and Ralph, grandchildren Ellen, Marc, Maxime, Grace and Joseph, and great-grandson Julius. Susan was born in Poplarfield, Manitoba, in 1927, and grew up in Steinbach, Manitoba. After pursuing musical education in Winnipeg, Susan began a career as a professional singer, and teacher of piano and voice, achieving accreditation from the Royal Conservatory in Toronto. Susan married her husband Rudolf in 1955, and became the devoted mother of two sons. As a musician Susan will be fondly remembered for her sensitive and expressive performances, and for the influence she had on countless students who passed through her studio, including her own children and grandchildren. However we will remember her best from the beautiful family weekends and summer months spent at the cottage on Wallace Lake. An eternal optimist, even throughout a difficult year dealing with cancer, Susan never lost her sense of humour, joy in life and personal dignity. She is an inspiration to us all. The family extends their most heartfelt thanks to the nurses at Riverview Healthcare Centre as well as the palliative homecare staff for their compassionate care and constant attention. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 31, 2012, at First Mennonite Church, 922 Notre Dame Ave., Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations in Susan's name may be made to a charity of your choice. Cropo Funeral Chapel, 586-8044

I am absolutely stunned that this beautiful lady, who left an unforgettable impression on me, has left this earth. And I did not know this until now - 2 years after her passing. She was my voice teacher who taught me more than singing or my love for opera and took me & Linda on a trip to Minneapolis to hear the New York Met; she taught me that life, pain and love bring the emotion to words and melodies. No matter when we saw each other, her vivacious smile radiated from her. How I wish I could tell her again how special she was. - Posted by: Leni Hamm-Lousier (Friend) on: Sep 21, 2014

I only heard of this now, a year later. My heart is heavy with sadness. Susan had a huge influence in my life — my voice (and piano - she tried!) teacher and friend for many years. I remember going on an overnight road trip with her and another student (Leni) to hear an opera in Minneapolis when I was about 18. Weekly I would make the trek to the big house for lessons. I can still seeing the living room with the sofa she recovered in psychedelic fabric. I loved her performance in "The Telephone." She certainly wasn't a wallflower. She was a beauty. Even her speaking voice was dramatic. I will always remember her big smile and the impact she had on my life. I'm sorry she is gone. - Posted by: Linda E. (Voice student and friend) on: Jun 07, 2013

"Some lives are like a song - every note rare and precious" I feel lucky to have had her as my voice teacher. She was a caring teacher and an inspiration to all her students. With heartfelt sympathy to your family. - Posted by: Irene Koenecke-Penner (Former student) on: May 30, 2012

I could go with all the platitudes that everyone else here has, and they are all deserving. All I can say is that she changed my life and was instrumental in helping me achieve things of which I never knew were possible. Mrs. Wieser, always Mrs. never Susan, will always be in my heart. - Posted by: David Smeltzer (former student) on: May 29, 2012

Susan and Rudy have ALWAYS held a very special place in my heart. One of the best things about an imminent visit to Wallace Lake was the assurance that I would see the Wiesers, and I always looked forward to hugs and kisses. Susan had the most joyful eyes...and her laugh was the BEST. She would cup my face in her hands and tell me how good it was to see me again. Each year I grew to just love her and Rudy more and more. Susan (Mrs. Wieser) to us, will be missed so very much. Much love to the Wieser family. She was an absolute GEM. - Posted by: Paula Jacob (family friend) on: May 29, 2012

Mrs. Wieser was my voice teacher from 1976 to 1980. I have many fond memories of lessons in her living room and the different vocal exercises. The sai-ai-ai-ai-ailor or Sig-no-o-o-ora. I'm sure many of her other students remember these as well. She was a warm, caring teacher who enjoyed music and life so much and was a true inspiration to her students. I will miss her. - Posted by: Allen Nixon (Former student) on: May 29, 2012

Tante Susie, the embodiment of grace and elegance, filling any room she entered. Her infectious laugh will always ring in our ears, her voice a gift to all who heard it. Her expression gave excitement to any topic she reflected on, and no matter how large the crowd you always felt you were the only one she was was talking to. We were crowned by her love. - Posted by: Hans-Rudi and Yvette Kroeker (Nephew and niece) on: May 29, 2012

Our son-in-law Ralf Miner and daughter Jill introduced us to Susan and Rudy at their cottage on Wallace Lake and we immediately took a liking to both of them. They made us feel so welcome. Susan was a wonderful person. We were sad to hear of her illness and now passing. She will be missed. - Posted by: Garry and Erma Stover (friend) on: May 28, 2012

Mrs. Wieser was a wonderful and generous teacher. Her enthusiasm and musicianship were inspiring and her repertoire astonishing. Her intimate studio evenings are another memory I cherish. - Posted by: Elenore Wieler (Former student) on: May 28, 2012

A genuine lady if ever there was one. I never saw a frown on her face. She loved music, life, and people, that magic trio for an abundant life. True to her role both in her professional and personal life, she used charm and grace at will and everyone that ever knew Susan received this from her. Her honesty was, compelling. - Posted by: Heidi Loewen (life-long friend who shared her devotion to music) on: May 28, 2012
