Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGLADYS KWIECIEN September 21, 1921 - May 27, 2012 Peacefully, with the comfort of family present, Gladys beloved wife of the late Frank Kwiecien, passed away into eternity. We are sad of her ultimate passing, but thankful for all the great years we had with Grandma and all the special memories we each treasure in our hearts. Gladys was born in 1921 in Rawa Ruska, Poland and came to Canada with her family at the age of five. The Klemkiewietz family lived on the bustling Selkirk Avenue and Winnipeg's North End remained Gladys' home for much of her life. Gladys was a young bride, marrying her sweetheart Frank in 1938. Together, they celebrated 61 anniversaries years filled with many friends and the company of their family. Gladys and Frank worked hard to provide for their family, but also knew how to enjoy life. In the earlier times, weekends were spent in the company of Frank's large family lots of fun times we have heard. Later on, vacationing had them enjoy many wonderful trips to Florida, California, Hawaii and Mexico, though Manitoba summers took them to Glenmoor, Prawda, Grand Beach and Twin Beaches. After many years of family Christmas', Birthdays, and celebrations on Boyd Avenue, Gladys and Frank moved to a simpler life that they'd enjoy in being downtown. In 1999, Frank passed away and Gladys lived as purposefully on her own as she did as a loving wife and companion. The strong qualities that shone in her those of a hardworking, self sacrificing, independent woman were inspired to be used in other ways. Gladys shared many wonderful friendships especially with her sister Mary, and her sisters-in-law, in more recent years Min, Pam, Julia and Eve, and of course her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her greatest joy. She was a wonderful listener and support to many. Each family member holds special memories of time spent with Grandma. She was more than Mom,' or Grandma,' she was also a friend and confidant. She was always welcome and vacationed many times with different family members Australia, Mexico, Hawaii, and Las Vegas to name a few. Until her last year, Grandma enjoyed great health and had a youthful and energetic spirit. She always looked sharp whether she was going to a party or just staying at home. She volunteered with the Nearly New Shop' in support of The Children's Hospital, went on daily walks downtown, visited with friends at the Kiwanis Centre, attended scheduled beauty appointments and was always eager to go to a gathering or have company at her home. Grandma was truly defined by her steady example of joy, grace, and unyielding spirit to see the best in others and in all circumstances. Her loving, accepting, and patient character will be a legacy to cherish and an example to all of a life well lived. Gladys will be missed by her children son Richard (Louise), daughter Wendy (Alex) Kuluk, son Doug (Karmen), her grandchildren, Christine (Glen), Karen (Ken), Doug, Gary (Shelley), Lynne, Adam (Jodi), and Matt (Katherine), numerous great-grandchildren, as well as her sister-in-law Eve Thompson , special family friend Pat Wheway, and many other friends and relatives. A memorial service celebrating our Mom and Grandma's life will take place on Sunday, June 3, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. In lieu of flowers, if desired, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
